This is turning into a expensive year.
Not that I'm really complaining about spending the money but yeah, it is turning into a expensive year so far.

Started back in late June/July with the purchase of a new to me vehicle and extra unplanned money I had to spend after. I probably could have nursed my previous one for a bit longer but the oppertunity came up and I couldn't really pass it up. Between the price of the car and money spent on repairs and such, that was around $7k over a couple months that I wasn't planning on spending.

And now my little buddy Sam the cat and unplanned vet bills over the last couple weeks with close to $4k spent so far, and depending on test results over the next week or so, most likely another several $k over the next few weeks or more.

To me at least, both expendatures have been worth the outlay so far, but man, my poor savings account has taking a beating and I have a feeling Christmas is going to be really tight this year.

I'm feeling it too my friend, hope things get better

Hope I'm not crapping on your thread

Roman, our male Frenchie stopped eating Monday. He's done it before, usually a cat toy mouse that a cat brought in from the "catio" He swallows it and stops eating, tries to vomit and or shit it out, he usually does. Any way by Wednesday morning he was in bad shape so we took him to the Vet. They were VERY concerned about him and did tests and xrays. He had something in his stomach and his digestive system had shut down. Vet can't do any surgeries or anything else while he's in this condition. The Vet tried to get him transferred to UGA and they wouldn't take him.

By now it's Friday morning. The Vet told us to take him to a Vet clinic down the road that has this plasma treatment he needs to get his system back working. Saturday morning he's up and feeling better, drinking water but not eating. They say they need to do surgery. They called my wife and told her that the surgery is very dangerous, the anesthetist is not certified and if they ran into any problems they would have to sew him up and send him to UGA. This scared the wife and we picked him up Saturday night and took him to UGA. We waited for hours to see the Vet, they took him in and sent us home. We got home at 5am. We had to be up at 8 to help daughter move Frown

Anyway, they were hoping to scope him and pull it out, no go. They had tom open him up. They called and said they got it out but couldn't tell what it was, they said it looked kinda like steel wool. We asked to let us see it when we pick him up. He's doing well and eating, we are supposed to pick him up tomorrow.

Our cat Puffer stopped eating Tuesday, we figured he just was not feeling well, he was acting fine. Thursday morning he was down and hardly moving. I took him to the Vet. She said more than likely the kidneys. Tests confirmed kidneys are shut down. That evening the vet said there isn't much they can do and he wouldn't make it through the night. The wife told her we would be in to put him down, no reason to let him suffer more.

Christmas is officially cancelled, the wife and I agreed on this

Thanks, lol not crapping at all and condolences on Puffer Frown

It definately is rough with stuff like this. I'm still holding out hope on the diagnosis and there will be a "fix" for whatever is going on.

Oh, man, a tough week for pets. I lost my dog suddenly, back in August and know how it feels. RIP Puffer, and I hope both Sam and Roman recover quickly.

Thanks Expert308

We picked up Roman today, he's doing great. He's not happy about the cone, we stopped at Petsmart and got him a donut.

Hey, that's great. Now sit him down and explain to him that he shouldn't eat just anything he finds laying around. I'm sure that'll keep this from happening again. Wink

Yeah, he's an asshole, he thinks cat turds are a gourmet treat

PakRat, check around your area and see if there is a University Vet teaching hospital. UGA was amazing and reasonable. A four day stay with surgery was the same as an overnight with no surgery at the VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group) emergency place. Not just money they kept us informed and seemed to really care about our boy

He lost a few pounds but he will put it back on quickly
