Oh great and terrible SigForum; oh honored members; oh grand masters of wisdom; oh tactical geniuses; oh thee who have smote the wicked in the dark; I have a confession to make.

I have been here since 2008 and I own no weapon lights. This situation must be remedied, so that I may pass from darkness into light, join the fraternity of the properly prepared, and witness the stunned incredulity of the miscreant pinned in the searing beam.

I need weapon lights. Two of 'em. One for a railed pistol, either a 229 or 2022, and one for a Magpul clad AR. It would also be nice if the rifle light would go on the rail on my 9mm AR, but that isn't necessary.

I confess the error of my ways.

Help me in my hour of need. Go with me as I spend my money. Grant me your wisdom, and if needed chide me in your scorn for being faithless.

The candidates:

229:

Magpul AR:

9mm AR:

For handgun, I'm a fan of the Streamlight TLR-7A with high switches.

If money is no object, SureFire. For bang for the buck, Streamlight.
Just pick a model which best suits your uses.

For your Magpul handguard

IWC SMC light mount and a Surefire M300.

The mount is ambidextrous, lightweight and low profile. The activation button for the light falls right under your thumb. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

After trying a couple of types, including a Surefire with tape switch, I was introduced to the INFORCE which I much prefer. It’s simple and easy to use, and easy to mount and transition among different guns. Switching between momentary and constant-on is with a large, easy to manipulate lever, and locking out is also via a large mechanical cover.

You can’t go wrong with Surefire. They are expensive but I’ve got several, weapons mounted and handheld, and I have never had a problem. And some of them have been used hard. I’ve got a X200 that’s I’ve had for probably close to 15 years and it’s been on multiple guns and through tens of thousands of rounds without a hiccup. It’s currently on my CZ Scorpion.

I do have a Streamlight on one of my rifles and it’s been a solid light too. It’s not been used as hard but based on their reputation and my limited experience I’d be comfortable using their products too. The price difference is hard to ignore.

I've had Para's recommendation bookmarked for a while. I want to say he was the one the posted it when I had a similar query.

Need to 'pull the trigger' & just order it.

I’m not an expert, but I carry a gun for work, and have worked in the dark most of my career.

I prefer Streamlight TRL-1. Simple, and it works.

I went with a FAB Defense PLA-1 light mount on my Noveske N4 (Thanks Q!).

https://www.fab-defense.com/en...d-laser-adaptor.html
to hold a Fenix PD32 torch.

It was an inexpensive way to repurpose a nice powerful flashlight. Big Grin

Set it up so that I can activate the light's rear button with my left hand thumb while gripping the Troy VFG (vertical foregrip). (I'm right handed.)

No complaints about my Inforce WMLx on my AR!

Lightweight, durable. It gets bounced around a lot in my squad car and at work, it's always turned on when I want it to.

I like the scalloped on/off switch, my thumb rests naturally on it, there's two settings, and both toss out a decent amount of light.

My vote is Streamlight because of its affordability--and thus popularity--makes finding holsters and accessories easy.

For rifle, I prefer Surefire, however the introduction of Modlite and Cloud Defense are very promising.

For pistols, I like Surefire or, Streamlight. Surefire better on full-size pistols, the x300-series you can swap between your pistol and rifle. For Streamlight, TLR-1 for full-size, TLR-7a for anything smaller both are long-time favorites at a more approachable price-points over SF. Modlite PL350 I'm hearing really good things about.

I had a Inforce APLc on my G19 and its circuits were not very good. Sent it back twice and no resolution; while disappointed, hopefully they can fix their issues as its a slick design for concealment.

When I was policing I installed a tritium front sight on my AR15 and used a TLR-1 for my light source on a 2” pic rail just past where I normally gripped with my support hand-that way I could manipulate he switch with my thumb. I never used the WML in the field and used the tritium sight if I needed to shoot. The WML was to qual with. I found I could see a lot better w/o the light than with it-I worked in the city and it’s never really dark

We didn’t use WML on our pistols because someone thought that a bunch a cops would use their gun light to search with ….well guess what genius-I used my gun when I was searching and used a stream light Protac or my big light.

I don’t have a WML now because I use the protac for illumination when using a pistol. And if i use the 12 ga, I use the protac.
