Good evening, all. A while back a friend gave me two plastic ammo cases stocked with AA and AAA batteries. (For the curious, Plano number 122650 for AA, and number 122950 for AAA.)

I went to the closet yesterday for a couple of batteries and found the AA box empty. (Someone in the house consumed all the batteries and neither a) replenished, nor b) let me know so I could replenish, but that's for the rants section.)

Anyway, I picked up batteries for replenishing both boxes yesterday. As I was putting them away this evening, I noticed three of the existing AAA had begun to leak.

Note to self and to SF members: it's not enough to have batteries on hand; one must have good batteries on hand. If you're storing a few, it's probably a good idea to check on them once in a while.

I have done similar with the MTM Case-Gard 20 round boxes. I think I used the one that fits 30-30. It fit AA's perfect.

For years I kept Duracell batteries, in all sizes, on hand and never once had any that were unused leak, and very dang few that were used.

Lately, I have had several leak well before the expiration date, even though they haven't been out of the package. This distresses me. Duracell has replaced them by sending me a coupon but I would prefer to have batteries that I know will be good when I need them. Like Duracells used to be.

Put 'em in the fridge like the good old days.

I like to be totally self sufficient and have rechargeable batteries. And a charger and solar panel, battery set up. You do have to replace them, but they seem to last about seven years. Much longer if they are not used. The biggest advantage, never had a rechargeable leak!

Go lithium or eneloop rechargeable. I store my batteries the same way.

Yep. All my serious use or expensive electronics get lithium batteries. No risk of leaking.
