So last night the power went out for maybe 20 mins. Came back on and all is well except the hot tub is dead. It did not trip the breaker. Reset just incase, but nothing. Guessing the dam circut board is shot. Sure that is cheap!. How come? If the board croaks every time the power goes out this sumbich is headed for the dump and and an expensive lesson learned. The previous one never had and issue for 25 years like this. Wth? Sorry but a little pissed. And no Roger this ain't your fault This message has been edited. There should be a disconnecting means close to the unit. Check for a GFI breaker/reset inside. I have also seen on other installs the GFI reset inside the access cover to the motor/heater eq. area.

When you say "it did not trip the breaker", are you referring to the breaker in your home's main breaker box? If so, the hot tub almost certainly also has a GFI breaker installed somewhere near it. Similar setup to the GFI electrical outlets in your bathroom, with a test and reset button. That's the most likely culprit. Find it and reset it. Look for it in an electrical box or behind an access panel, on/near the hot tub or a nearby wall. (Also, the term is "kaput". It's a German word, meaning "broken" or "useless". ) Here's an example of a hot tub GFI in the center of an exterior electrical box:

I think you meant Kaput.

Yeah, that is what I meant. F--king KaPut. So the electrician did put a separate breaker box in with a GFI in it. It did not trip. Electrician just did a service call. Power is good to the circuit board in the tub. The board has a melted portion (big round mov type thing) So at least part of the board is fried and took some kind of surge. So the fucking thing is most likely toast Now to deal with HotSprings spa where everything cost an arm and a leg. maybe a 12ga and some OObuck is in order. Although this is a therapy tub for my wife so it is just a grin and fix the fu--ing thing I suppose. Sorry to vent here guys. Better than taking it out on the dogs. Just not a good moment in time is all. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

What brand? The Sundance that we had had some logic where after a power interruption it would not run for 24 hours. It might be worth checking your manual.

You might try installing a whole house surge protector in your main electrical panel to see if that'll help. Try calling spa shopper to see if they can give you any advice. Email me, if you would like a phone number and extension number.

It is a hot springs spa. Weird but not totally unexpected I suppose. Every other piece of sensitive electronic equipment in the house did not experience any issue, except the damn hot tub. Thx Ecm, I did discuss that with my electrician. He is going to do that, but it is 50-50 as to whether that will help or not. Money well spent, who know's, Maybe yes, maybe no. Has not been a issue in damn near a couple decades. Might be pouring money down the drain that could be spent on the next circuit board for the damn hot tub! Updated post too include info on spa shopper. Didn't want you to miss that. Electronics have varying surge protection circuits (sensitivities) the additional surge protector in the MP could vary well solve the problem. Wish ya the best.

Thx Ecm, please post the number. $450 for the circuit board. More if service guys comes to install probably $800-$1000 with travel and labor "Practice like you want to play in the game"

25 years is well over the life expectancy of a spa. I would look for a lightly used one year old spa and replace the whole thing.

This one is a slightly used one I got a year ago with known history. Blew the budget on it and maintenance already. The old Sun dance got retired a year ago. This is just a bad break. No ones fault. I really had not thought about a electrical panel surge protector until talking with the electrician this morning. Just weird the hot tub was the only thing affected and it did not have any internal protection. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

I incorrectly self diagnosed a bad board in my Sundance Payton. Cost was $300 for the board and 30 minutes to easily install it. My problem turned out to be the control panel. Another $300. Recently had our power go out and knocked out our gas heater. Luckily it was only the limited switch and we have a friend that works on heating and air.

Spend $300 on a surge protector and save the money next time. The "MOV" thing you said melted IS a surge protector. Way better to have $120 item shit the bed (surge protector) than a $500+ thing die. Buy the surge protector and breaker yourself <$150 and pay electrician to install ~$150 for unfinished area, slightly more for finished panel location. I suggest this Eaton one.. Here is the best review of various surge protectors I've found yet on surge protectors. I also recommend in addition to the whole house unit one on the equipment, I'd recommend this unit installed at the hot tub disconnect. Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis
