What do people get out of attention seeking behavior?
Loud pipes on Harleys, “obnoxious” behavior on bicycles, rollerblading backwards down the middle of major streets, etc.
(Miami Beach is varies from fun, to befuddling to infuriating depending on whether you’re dealing with eccentricity to just unmitigated 3rd world asshole who thinks he’s a special being because he was a party member in some 3rd world communist hell hole.)

Their behavior is caused by deep seated psychological issues, predominantly poor self image.
They'll never get over it. I know people, including my brother, who have been that way for 60 years or more and it doesn't go away.

@Flash-LB. OK. That’s why I was trying to figure out.
Most outlandish behavior comes back to mating, especially is social circles which have lost morality.
It doesn’t seem like wearing a costume, imitating a group of felons, and deliberately driving in a way to irritate everyone, would make one accountant more desirable than another mid-level corporate cog.
Maybe it does. Obviously, as a 42 year old bachelor, my knowledge is a bit lacking.

I'll defend loud pipes on Harleys. I almost knocked one over while changing lanes until I heard the bark of his pipes. Saved us both.

That’s the point I was trying to make. What is attention good for? I doubt it attracts women/makes them money.
Does it help with whatever people used to be “popular” in HS? All my friends did things w their lives, so they weren’t part of that crowd.

And BINGO was his name-o!
However, when one is seeking "attention", they often don't get to dictate what type of attention they receive!
Dude with the purple Mohawk, 38 piercings in his face, and wearing a neon bikini top obviously wants attention. When it receives negative attention... Oh well...

It all goes back to my theory/firm belief that one of the strongest motivators for humans is the desire to influence others. That’s because we are communal animals who benefit greatly from the cooperation of others, and we get that by influencing them. Influence can be achieved in at least a couple of ways: giving them something such as the products of our labor, the food we gather, cooperative work ourselves, or sex; and intimidation through the threat of force or withholding the things that we control.
And the first step in influencing someone is attracting their attention: See what a fat rabbit I killed; See what big breasts I have that show how well I could nourish our baby; See what big muscles I have that I could use to beat you into the ground; See my Iron Cross First Class that demonstrates how brave I was and how skilled I would be in ensuring you survive the next battle; etc.
That evolutionary drive to influence others, though, isn’t limited to a desire to influence merely for the purpose of gaining something in return. That’s especially true in modern societies in which most people don’t know each other. Even if the motorist doesn’t get anything tangible in return from attracting attention with his obnoxious engine noise, at least he has influenced others by attracting their attention. (And in modern society disapproving attention has no undesirable effect on him.)

And the "look at me" tendency is never more easily seen than with the current fascination with "drag queens". Outlandish, garish makeup and bizarre outfits just serve to make them clownish. Want to dress like a chick? Have at it! Want to be a clown? Join the circus!

It's human nature, most everyone can control it. In society today it is amplified many times because of the media and/or their desire to sensationalize a story for readership or views. I blame parenting (mostly fathers or lack of) and the Media for it all.
