My ~1 yr old S21 slipped out of my hand while getting out of the car Saturday.
Landed just right on the driveway & put what looked like an insignificant crack in the screen.
Must've hit right where the backlight controller is, as the screen is dead, visibly. But, it still works, as I was able to turn off my alarm by swiping the spot where the X would be.

Is there an app, desktop, that can clone the screen of the phone, without being able to install anything onto the device?
I've got a S23 on order, but worst case, won't be here until 2/14.

Luckily, in the interim, my Citizen CZ Smart (thanks Dave!) gives me text & call alerts, and can be used to answer a call. Also, still works in the car, especially with AndroidAuto, so I'm not 100% DOA.

It might just be easier to get the screen replaced. There's a booth inside an HMart near me that does it for $100.

Just an idea...

Hedley Lamarr: Wait, wait, wait. I'm unarmed.
Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Look into Samsung DeX. It's probably your best bet. You have to connect your phone via USB to your PC. Might work without having to do anything but unlock your phone, but I'm not totally sure.

Thought about that, but didn't have good luck the last time I got a screen replaced. Went ahead & got a S23 on order.

Thanks, I'll look into that. Should be able to fingerprint unlock, unless it's wanting the full text pwd, in which case, I may be out of luck.

Well, Dex looked promising, but requires some screen interaction that I'm not able to do.
The screen works, but I don't know where to tap.

I must be hitting the cancel button, because the only tap I can get to register, closes Dex on my computer.

Here's what pops up on my phone screen after I plug in my phone and then double click the Samsung DeX icon on my computer.

It then asks to allow access to your data.

That's about it.

Just to give you an idea where to press. Assuming it's the same as mine. I'm on an S9.

Thanks, I was pressing closer to the middle of the screen.
I'll give clicking there a shot.
Thanks for the screen grabs.

Edit: Alan is the man!
I've got Dex working & am able to use my phone, at least for basic stuff so far.

Minor update.
Have to clock the Start Now button every time, so I have to just tap around in that area until the desktop view picks up.
Otherwise, it works great. Better than having to switch to an iPhone in the interim.

If DEX doesn't work for you, try SAMSUNG SMART SWITCH on your PC. Plug your phone in to the PC, open Smart Switch and download everything on your phone. Then, when you get your new S23, you can load directly from Smart Switch to your new one.

Thanks, with the S21 having an inop screen, smart switch backup to the PC may be a good idea.

My wife has a habit of deleting her contacts instead of her RECENT calls. I plug her phone into the PC open Smart Switch and restore her contacts to her phone. Easy.

Also, for anyone else trying this.
We use 2FA at work & the Dex app will not display 'sensitive' info, like the rolling 2FA codes.
Had to get a spare phone from the office to set up my 2FA until I get the new phone.
