Better watch out because Police look for expired tags so they can pull people over and kill them.

The media told me that so it must be true.

About a year. Was almost at year 7 on my 6 year driver’s license when I went to rent a truck to move some stuff and they kindly explained they can’t rent to someone whose license is expired. Had to have the wife rent it instead and we switched vehicles a couple miles from the rental agency since she didn’t want to drive it 900 miles. I was very careful knowing I was illegal the whole trip!

Yeah, I've heard about that. I'll probably be OK though, 'cause I put the new sticker on. Smile

Now I don’t feel so bad. Back in November 2020, I realized that my registration for my daily driver had expired in May. After complete surprise that I wasn’t pulled over at any point in the preceding 6 months, I went online and paid a small late fee to get current.

I just towed my jet ski from FL to MI. The plate on the trailer expired in 2013. I actually have a MI permanent trailer plate for it in my truck, I just have to put it on.

Wow you too?

I have an old pickup I keep around for the occasional home depot, lowes, plant nursery run, etc. It gets driven maybe 300 miles a year.

The tag was due in March. I renewed a the tag agency, bought it home, and promptly forgot to attach the new sticker to the plate. Out of sight, out of mind.

Friday morning I was asked to make a run to pick up a new fountain. Got to the pickup, noticed my tag was expired, remembered I had purchased the renewal and just flat out didn't get it put on the plate. Searched high and low, all over, and could not find it.

Drove my car (daily driver) to the tag agency and confessed my error.

Cost me $13.50 for a replacement sticker.

Fit Schappens, lol.

Y'all got me beat... wife gave me the new sticker for one of our cars back in February and I put it on.... then we went to the beach in the other car and while there realized I had put it on the wrong car.... So, we drove 'illegal' for two weeks.... the funny thing was when we got back I was able to peal the sticker off the other tag with a razor blade and put it on the right car.

And, when you handed them 'license and registration' when requested, they'd see a valid, if un-used, expiration sticker.

I'm not sure what the violation would be (if there is one) for driving a currently registered vehicle without appropriately using a sticker?

My cousin Bob worked on 3 farms for 17 years during and after high school.

Nobody ever asked him until he got hit by a drunk driver, one morning.

The local deputy ,whom Bob had known for 15 years didn't want to cite him but had to because of the amount of damage involved.

His boss at the time helped him get a c.d.l.license.
Bob was very well liked in the tiny rural community
and
A dozen people found enough money to buy him a five y.o. pick up , instead of trying to fix the 14 y.o. beater that got damaged.

At the age of 44 he got married to a very wealthy widow , settled down and seems as happy as a lamb in clover.

My daughter turned 16 in January. We bought a new vehicle and she is driving our old one. I noticed the first week of May that the plates on her car were expired (dad fail…set the renewal notice aside and completely forgot about it). I didn’t want to chance (and she didn’t either) her getting any grief if she were to be pulled over so she drove my truck while I scheduled the required emissions inspection. All is well, car is current… Fast forward to last Monday, I was filling up my truck at the gas station. As I’m walking back from throwing some trash away I look at the plate (only one on the front as it’s a 3/4 ton diesel) and notice a 2021 sticker on it. Yep, my truck plates had expired……in December. Big whoops…

In TN, the sticker doesn't really do anything other than generate PC for a traffic stop. If your (current) registration paperwork isn't in your glove box but you have a current sticker (even if it's legitimately up to date) then you're getting a ticket for out-of-date registration and you'll have to bring your paperwork to court to prove your stuff is up to date. I got nailed about 7 years ago driving to Nashville by a state trooper and they give no quarter. (It was up to date, just not in my glove box, and I don't think I was actually speeding but I was the one who pulled over so I got the ticket. Also, the experience fighting the tickets in Decaturville was a friggin' joke.)

I'm not sure what would happen if your registration were up to date but your sticker wasn't.

My truck has the sticker for our 5th wheel and our 5th wheel has the sticker for my truck. I figure it’ll fix itself next year.

In Missouri they quit busting people for that during Covid. Probably 50% of the temp tags are past due.

You probably got your tag read many times by one of these scanners, it reads the plate, plate comes back registered, current insurance and no warrants. No problem

Yeah, having joinder created is... arguably much worse. Especially inside your property, in full view of the public for private means rather that commercial. You don't want that.
