GAB TO LAUNCH GAB PHONE – NO LONGER A REASON TO BUY APPLE OR GOOGLE DEVICE

Phone is a prototype, launch will happen shortly

—————————————–

The internet upstart Gab, which is threatening the entire big-tech ecosystem, just announced they are planning to launch a new Gab phone. The declaration caught the technology world by surprise, and comes at the exact moment Silicon Valley is tightening the screws on the American public, and the world for that matter.

Former Silicon Valley entrepreneur Andrew Torba left the big-tech arena in 2016 to start Gab, a competitor to Twitter. We discussed the most recent big-tech and Deep State assault on the free flow of information from his platform yesterday.

Torba has been kicked off every payment platform and even had his family’s Visa cards revoked.

Below is the press release on the new device.

If your business is built on the backs of Silicon Valley tyrants (Apple, Google, et al) they can and will attempt to destroy you if and when you become a threat to their interests.

They did this to Gab. Then Fortnite. Now Parler.

Terrible content of all kinds is available on Twitter and Facebook.
Everyone on the planet knows this fact.
Yet both companies are on both App Stores.

Apple banning Parler is not the neutral implementation of some objective standard, but rather a cynical, politically motivated gesture and evidence of Silicon Valley elites’ disdain for ordinary Americans.

The solution, as always, is not government.
It is to build your own.
People mock this meme, but Gab lives it.
While others whine, we build.

GAB LAUNCHES PHONE - NO LONGER A REASON TO BUY APPLE PHONE
Meet the Gab Phone.
Yes, it’s real.

The Big Tech data mining silo must come down.
We will no longer be serfs on your digital plantation.
You will no longer control our digital destiny.
You can’t stop the signal.

Stay tuned for pre-order information.

I've held off on buying a new phone. My Galaxy has cracks on front & back, and both camera lens covers are broken.
But, it still functions as a phone, so I'm kicking it along. This could be a viable alternative, if it's a decent phone.

Interesting, but making it successful will be a difficult slog, as Microsoft found out after trying... what? three times? to field a successful product. Android and Apple are pretty thoroughly entrenched.

Ever hear of the Samsung Tizen smartphone? No? Well, it exists. Existed? Unclear. It is (was?) Samsung's attempt to get away from having to use the Android OS.

If Microsoft and Samsung couldn't make a go of it, I highly doubt a Gab phone will be successful.

I wish them luck, though.

Making a phone is tough. It takes a building full of experts, and millions in development costs. Not something to be taken lightly.

Therefore I assume these are really re-branded phones from some existing company. I'd like to know from who. Huawei? LG? Lenovo? Samsung?

Since Motorola dropped manufacturing here (Lenovo), there are no American made cell phones or smartphones anymore.

Speaking of Gab, I signed up for an account. Is the site always this bogged down and slow?

I hear ya'll and agree.

If I'm not mistaken the only one who appears to be on the verge of success with their own OS is Huawei which is Chinese and basically banned in the US now.

The alternatives keep getting crushed by new waves of signups.

Yeah, I swore off social media and set up a Gab account yesterday. May not use if much, but it's my thumb in the eye of Twitter.

Gab added over 600,000 new members on Sunday. They have been working to add and improve their servers to keep up with demand.

There's a phone available today that's based on a version of Linux. No hooks into your data, or tracking of your activity or location. Pretty much secure. It does what most phones were originally designed to do. But it's failing for the same reason others have failed previously...a total lack of available apps for it. As an app developer, are you going to expend time and effort (i.e. money) porting your software to a new platform that Apple and Google will actively seek to destroy, or to the current Android and iOS systems where you can make a buttload of money and avoid the wrath of the big boys?

Without apps, all alternative phones will fail. Unfortunately, it's just that simple.

I was under the impression that both Apple and Android phones are based on some version of UNIX or Linux.

I believe iOS is somewhat derived from BSD Unix. Android (AOSP) is certainly derived directly from Linux.

If this becomes reality and actually happens, and is functional then I’ll have zero issues dropping the Apple ecosystem. We need alternatives, recent events are proof of such needs.

IIRC, all the Apple OSs are based on BSD Unix (even watchOS).
Android is technically a Linux-based OS, but not in the way that most people mean when they talk about “using Linux”. Google used Linux for the Android kernel — the core of the OS — but wrote their own software for everything else. Like, you can’t run what’s colloquially called “Linux software” on your Android phone even though it’s the same kernel because the rest of the system is different. Arguments can be (and have been) made that people should use more precise language WRT what exactly they mean when it comes to Linux-based OSs, but Android is the only major “problem” with the more casual usage so very few people bother.
