birds like shiso (seeds)
We've been planting shiso (perilla) in the backyard; usually just a couple of plants in pots. This year, we have a bunch of plants that grew naturally in ground - natural spread for wind born seeds.

After harvesting the leaves for the year, the stems with an abundance of seeds were attached by small birds (finches?). They come in a pack (a dozen or so?). They are eating the seeds with abandon; they stay eating on the stems for a long time - 30 minutes or more. Usually, the birds just come and go quick - seconds. Drinking from the bird bath or eating something off the ground.

But w/ the shiso, they stay for a long time. Who knew that birds like this shiso so much (I don't think it's a native, indigenous plant).

Glad to see them enjoying themselves.
