Tom Cotton Daylight Savings Time
I can set back the clocks in 15 minutes or so.

I don't have a way to set back the critters for feeding time.

I don't care one way or the other but giving the guu's cellphone number is kind of classless.

This needs to pass. Switching clocks twice a year is stupid. Kids can go to school in the dark. I grew up north of 50 degrees latitude and had to do it my whole life...on public transit no less, not just standing at the end of my driveway waiting for the bus. It's a stupid argument. Pass the bill.

Changing the clocks has always been a terrible idea. But so is a fixed 9 to 5.

Sending kids to school in the dark can be fixed by simply changing the school start time.

Just stop screwing with my sleep.

I’d prefer we stay on DST year round. The daylight after dinner is more useful (and enjoyable) for me than daylight at breakfast.

Bringing up farmers again. Farmers can, and do, get up whenever they want, or need to, the government doesn’t have to set their clocks.

I agree.

We've tried permanent DST before. It didn't work and was repealed. But yeah...let's try it again. Roll Eyes

What is that definition of insanity again?

What does “a fixed 9 to 5“ mean?

Serious about crackers.

To DST or not to DST is not the question we should be asking. What we should be asking - similar to Thune blocking the voter ID act - is how and why one guy gets to "block" anything.

I don't think a change of the clocks one way or the other is gonna affect how much daylight or heat you are going to get in a 24 hr period.

Yes, to a certain extent, but I’m at work, with the boss paying for the AC. My home AC is set to a higher temp until I get home.

I'm no expert s o take it for what is worth...

I tried doing the yo-yo on the thermostat summer & winter.
Summer time raise the temp on stat and everything, furniture, walls ect, in the house warms up to the higher temp. Now you get home and lower temp setting and the A/C has to run until the everything cools down.
Just the reverse for us northern areas on the heat.
Here in my area electric "PEAK" usage hours are 3-7pm.
Right when the rates are the highest is when everybody is getting home and changing the temp.
Good chance you are actually costing yourself more.

YMMV

Yeah, as a farmer what time it is is no more important than what day it is. Stuff’s gotta get done, you get it done.

This is the real problem. One man should not be allowed to block a vote . Especially when 80% of people want to change the current twice a year changing of the clock

I'm confused as to HOW Cotton is blocking the bill.
I went and found the house bill:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/...bill/139/all-actions

I can see where it passes the house and moves to the senate.
Once it gets there, it gets read twice and referred to a committee.
Ok great... maybe he's on this committee and blocking it....

So I dug up the committee:
https://www.commerce.senate.gov/about/members/

Nowhere on there is listed Tom Cotton.

So... HOW is he blocking this thing?
Is he standing in the room where the committee is with a gun demanding they dont pass it or something?

This is where my signature goes.

The problem is, the proponents of the Bill wanted to bypass all the time-consuming senate floor procedures (discussions, arguments, debate…), so they proposed to use unanimous consent. Meaning, if all 100 senators have no objection to the proposal, the Bill simply passes immediately. The catch is, all 100 senators have to consent. If just one objects, then it’s going nowhere. And Cotton is THAT guy. This asshole, btw, didn’t object to it in 2022. And his excuses for his then action are thin ice at best. Roll Eyes

That doesn't seem right. There is no way 99 Senators are for this bill and only Tom Cotton opposes it.

Cotton is the only one making noise opposing it, so it’s moot for the remaining 99, whatever their positions are. As stated, all it takes is just one opposing it, and it’s going nowhere. That’s unanimous consent.

The Bill did pass unanimous consent (all 100 supported) in the Senate in 2022 but then died in the House. Fuckers. Roll Eyes

I've been reading up on this and Permanent Daylight Savings Time has been passed before in 1974 and reversed when people complained about it. Why do people think it would have better success now? Most people probably don't even know about it but if it passes everyone will know. That's when the complaining will start. Pass it, don't pass it. Either way some people will be pissed about it somewhere.

If they're going to change it, why not try Permanent Standard Time this time? At least it will be a different experience for people to complain about.

That is the correct solution.
