First off, I’m salty today but just read that Tom Cotton, who generally speaking I really like, is the lone Senator blocking the already passed bill from Congress ending the ridiculous daylight savings time bill. Trump literally posted Cottons cell number in Truth Justice for his constituents to pressure him to knock off his grandstanding BS. Cotton stated “Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.” My question is when did you go full retard, you literally just complained about what already is in existence! Hello, we “fall back” an hour every fall! Ugh

School buses frequently carry children in the dark during early winter mornings and late afternoons. Tom Cotton is an idiot.

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Everybody in Arkansas, Tom Cotton, a friend of mine, is holding up a very important Bill. It’s called, “The Sunshine Protection Act” or, “We Don’t Want to Change Our Clocks Twice a Year Act.” For some reason, Tom is stopping the Bill and, in the Senate, it’s very easy to do, it only takes one! It should pass overwhelmingly, in a Bipartisan fashion. So, everyone in Arkansas, a State I love, and won 3 times, the last by by 34 points, tell Tom to, GET IT DONE! It will be appreciated by all. Nobody wants to spend their precious time running all over the place, turning Clocks back twice a year and, having sunshine in the afternoon is better than early in the morning! The PGA TOUR, as an example, needs more Daylight in the afternoon in order to finish their Tournaments. Likewise, regular Golfers, Tennis Players, Hunters and, perhaps most importantly, Farmers who want more Daylight to play or work. See letter from Brian Rolapp, CEO of the PGA TOUR below. 65% PLUS want more sun in the afternoon, Daylight Saving Time (The way it is now!), but 100% don’t want to change their Clocks twice a year. They want to, as they say, “LOCK THE CLOCK!” Who doesn’t? It’s very expensive for our Nation where you have high and dangerous steeples to reach, like on churches and municipal buildings. Almost everybody wants “The Sunshine Protection Act” to pass, except for Tom Cotton. To the Great People of Arkansas, please let your Senator know it would be a GREAT Bipartisan WIN for the United States Senate, and for America, itself. Call Tom on his cellphone at, 479-453-0533, and let him know. “The Sunshine Protection Act” was passed in the House by a Vote of 308 to 117. HAVE THE SENATE VOTE, NOW! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

You, not Cotton, are misunderstanding. Not falling back in the fall would make sunrise and sunset one hour later in the winter, meaning kids would be going to school in the dark. Cotton is opposed to eliminating moving the clocks back. He wants to keep moving the clocks back.

All bullshit. Not changing the clocks is going to affect one end or another. Either they come home in the dark or leave in the dark. Most pedestrian accidents happen in the evening when it's dark; extending the daylight so that, in particular, kids will be less vulnerable should be at a priority. I'm personally very shocked that Tom Cotton would be the fly in the ointment. I always thought better of him. His position makes no sense, given the facts.

School gets out well before sunset in the winter either way. If they didn't move the clocks back, the kids would be going to school before sunrise but still be finishing school before sunset. Adults may be coming home from work in the dark, though.

Just pick standard time. Don't spring forward, then you don't have to fall back.

Personally, I’m against the whole Daylight Savings Time BS. It was instituted during WW1 as a wartime measure; we defeated the Kaiser and that should have been the end of it.

I’m in Louisville, KY, which is at the farthest western edge of the Eastern Time Zone system. As it currently is with the regular Eastern STANDARD Time, the Sun rises at 8:00am on January 3 through 7.

If we would remain on year-around Daylight time, the Sun wouldn’t rise until 9:00am on those days. School reconvenes on those first days of January at 8:00am, so the kids would be at bus stops well before the Sun rises.

Louisville should be on Central Time, as we are closer to Chicago than we are to NYC. We were on Central Time until the late 1950s when the local Chambers of Commerce sold a “bill of goods” to the State Legislature about how the General Electric Appliance Park being a boon to Louisville and the State’s economy “IF” Louisville was on Eastern time.

As stated prior, DST was stupid. I know where I live in Florida, yes you get another hour of daylight but it becomes unbearably hot. My electric bill suffers.

Anyhoo, go with DST or Standard year round instead of changing clocks back and forth. I don’t know why people consider work and school schedules being set in stone, if kids have to go to school in the dark just change the schedules. The rising and setting sun is natural, work and school schedules are not.

So we do have to adjust the schedules. Hmmm, that's exactly why we change the clocks twice a year now, everyone does it together on the coordinated days. It's not just school, it's all adult outdoor activities as well.

I'm just barely old enough to remember when we went permanent Daylight Savings Time in the 1970s. Everyone hated it and we went immediately back to switching the clocks.

I'll say it out loud, the same people that bitch about switching the clock, will bitch when it gets permanently set to DST, and sunrise is at 5:30am in the summer.

I don't think a change of the clocks one way or the other is gonna affect how much daylight or heat you are going to get in a 24 hr period.

Yes, to a certain extent, but I’m at work, with the boss paying for the AC. My home AC is set to a higher temp until I get home.
