What the teacher said:

The student said "I'll just find the answers to the test on line somewhere" and he (the teacher) responded with "No, because they are in my house in my safe near my gun"

Plymouth teacher on leave over "alarming" gun remarks

Laurel J. Sweet
Sunday, March 11, 2018

A Plymouth North High School teacher has been placed on leave, accused of making an "alarming" statement to students Friday about a gun.

"The investigation has indicated that the comment, while alarming, was not indicative of a present danger to the school," Plymouth Public Schools said in a Facebook post yesterday. "Through social media, a great deal of misinformation has been circulated. We want to make students and parents aware that our investigation, assisted by police, has indicated that this situation involved a statement only, and not the possession of anything illegal."

FOX 25 News is reporting that in a letter to students, Superintendent Gary Maestas described the incident as "inappropriate remarks" by the teacher regarding a gun he owns.

The station said Maestas told parents police are not actively investigating the matter.

The teacher was reported to school administrators by students.

"We are proud of the students who came forward, and we want to express our appreciation to them and to the members of our school community who provided information that helped us get to the bottom of this situation quickly and safely," the school department's statement said. "We will continue to prioritize school safety at all times in this difficult climate and react swiftly and strongly to any type of allegation that is brought to our attention."

I would say; "God help us!" but all I can envision is God rolling on the floor laughing His ass off, and then crying.

Those students should be so very proud of themselves for garnering all that strength and courage to come forward in their time of distress and danger.

I think we are beyond help now.

Well, although the answers to the test may be in the teacher's safe, changes are good that they can also be found on the web--virtually anything can be found there nowadays.

Admittedly, the teacher's mention of the gun was probably not either necessary nor helpful, I didn't find it "alarming".

At this point, were I that teacher, I'd resign.

Of course, in this day-and-age I'd never consider a career in "education," in the first place.

I guess I laughed twice.

First, when I was in HS, our World History teacher would bring his deer rifle (30-06?) to class, right after lunch period, as he was working on it in the shop class during his lunch. And we would regularly have pickup trucks in the student parking lot with rifles in a rack inside the rear window. No one cared.

Then, I teach business in college, told a student after he submitted the final exam he would fail for cheating (looking on other papers). He complained he wasted $100 as he bought the answers to my final. I mentioned that I just made up that final exam, hadn't done the answers yet myself, so he really did waste the $100.

That reminds me of the old joke about the man who went back to his college some years later and visited his old Economics professor. During the conversation it was mentioned that the Final Exam had just been taken by the class and the professor showed it to the visitor. The man looked at them and said, "Professor, these are the same questions you used when I was in your class." To which the professor said "Yes--I use the same questions every semester." The visitor couldn't believe the professor was that naïve and said "Don't you know that the fraternities all keep copies of test questions on file?" And the professor just smiled and said "Yes, I know. In Economics we change the answers."

They could just close all the schools and put us out of our misery. The real estste could be sold, go back on the tax rolls, the teachers could find other jobs, maybe even accomplishing something worthwhile, parents could chose the education their kids deserved and suited to their talents.

Entrepreneurs would happily offer all sorts of options, from basic to Rhodes Scholar prep and everyone would be better off. I don't know how it would work out for Friday night football, or band, but I’m working on it.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

As no threat was made, the teacher's union should be providing a defense if any salary is lost.

Now what is being made of the student who admitted they would make an effort to cheat?

I heard a LBGT gal say that not asking her "her pronouns" and saying she/her/her's to her....him?....it? whatever....was, and this a direct quote "an act of violence" against her/him/it.

These lefties are insane. they are so easily offended and get all fired up over simple words. Clearly the whole sticks and stones thing was never taught to them.

On the plus side, the reaction is so predictable that it can be highly entertaining. like a laser pointer and my dog. It's hilarious how pissed he gets over a silly little light.
