The explosion happened on the 400 block of North Washington Street in Pottstown just before 8:30 p.m.

I actually heard that at my house tonight while putting the kids to bed around 8:30, I just thought it was thunder. Then we heard lots and lots of sirens, we are about 6 miles away. Yikes Eek

I’m hearing it was a natural gas leak.

The address is 453/455 Hale St. It was a duplex and four people are dead while two more are missing.

Kind of wild that the roof is on it’s edge and somewhat intact. Looking at it again the roof and wall it’s leaning against is part of the 455 half of the duplex. The 453 half is entirely unrecognizable.

4 dead, 2 unaccounted for so far. Just heard there was a strong odor of natural gas in the area when first responders arrived and this area has been known for a while of having lots of reports of people smelling gas but PECO the gas utility could never find the source. I wonder if a gas main blew?

According to the press conference this afternoon, 5 have passed away, everyone has been accounted for/located, and the investigation is ongoing. No cause as of yet and everything referring to a cause is just speculation at this time.

Looks like a fuel-air bomb went off…which is probably about what happened regardless of whether it was natural gas or meth chemicals.

Well, I'd say it definitely was an explosion, even if they're not sure what caused it yet. Absolute, utter destruction. And 5 dead--that is tragic.

Why should anyone cook meth when you can get the real deal cheap from Mexico? I thought that was thing of the past.

Kinda doubt it was a meth lab. I think that would be less explosive and more incendiary. This looks like a gas explosion, or real explosives.
