Let’s see who made the “mistake” of going to law school. To keep things private, you can skip a response after you have voted. However, if you wish, it would be interesting to find out why/how you got into your current field. __________________________

Needs a check up from the neck up |
Unlucky #1, I hope this goes better than the karma threads! Did 3 years before law school in insurance defense Then 3 years of insurance defense litigation Then went solo, doing litigation and real estate, 15 years going solo and I would never look back! __________________________ The entire reason for the Second Amendment is not for hunting, it’s not for target shooting … it’s there so that you and I can protect our homes and our children and and our families and our lives. And it’s also there as fundamental check on government tyranny. Sen Ted Cruz

Mistake Not... |
Two lawyer firm doing mainly criminal defense with some criminal type stuff as well (protection orders, rights restoration, civil forfeiture). I was a prosecutor for 15 years as well as a judge pro tem (doing work as a substitute judge) and am now defense oriented with some public defense contract work. Partner all criminal. Both of us have been in since 1996. We met in law school in 1993 and started the firm in 2011. ___________________________________________ Life Member NRA & Washington Arms Collectors Mistake not my current state of joshing gentle peevishness for the awesome and terrible majesty of the towering seas of ire that are themselves the milquetoast shallows fringing my vast oceans of wrath. Small firm private practice for the first 5 years, focused of real estate, probate and estate planning, and construction law, both transactional as well as litigation. Now I do complex transactional real estate exclusively, but still in a small firm. Been in practice since 2011. -ShneaSIG Oh, by the way, which one's "Pink?"

Started out as a solo practitioner in 1986, moved to the 9th largest firm in Kentucky in 1990, and moved to a mid-size (by Louisville, Kentucky standards) firm in 1994 (currently 14 attorneys). They haven't kicked me out yet. I handle real estate litigation, lien enforcement, title law, and creditor's rights. I'm a long-time Sigforum lurker, and infrequent poster. __________________________ "Sooner or later, wherever people go, there's the law. I went to click Holiday Inn Express and there is no option for it. Please respect my knowledge and personal achievements in my field and add it to the poll. Devil's Advocate |
After being in publishing and business and dropping out and crewing on sailboats, then working as a litigation paralegal in big DC and AZ firms, I went to law school in my mid-30s. After doing this and that post-Katrina, ended up in the legal training and publishing field, which is a pretty good place to be. ________ Homo sum: humani nil a me alienum puto

Eschew Obfuscation |
I retired last year, but spent my entire career as a transactional attorney specializing in software and technology. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I'm a solo practitioner focusing on start-ups, technology companies, contracting and licensing. I also have a significant sub-specialty in business consulting, business planning and large scale distribution businesses. Started out as a Public Defender then did criminal solo for a few years, then with a small firm. Stopped doing any criminal about 5 years ago. Mainly Real Estate/Business transactional law since 2003. Yet, I still miss being a Public Defender. Go figure.

No good deed goes unpunished |
Small firm. Our practice is limited to estate planning and post mortem administration. In other words, lots of trusts, LLCs, and estate tax returns.

The Ice Cream Man |
Ice cream maker, technically I have a small wealth management practice as well. (Just a friends and family thing.)

Little ray of sunshine |
I started out in big law, stayed there six years. Then I went into partnership with one colleague and stayed in that firm for five years. I have been at the small firm (originally about 10 lawyers, now a little bigger) I am now with for eleven years. I do family law, and general commercial litigation. I have always done commercial litigation, and added family law when I left big law. The fish is mute, expressionless. The fish doesn't think because the fish knows everything.

Quirky Lurker |
Former prosecutor, now my practice is mostly civil litigation defense, focused on constitutional law, employment discrimination, police and corrections liability, and personal injury. Admitted to practice in 2005.

So far we are below the national avg for small/solo practitioners. But, we have two federal proscutors which has to be way above the avg. __________________________

Presiding municipal judge in 4 jurisdictions, managing partner at an 18 attorney firm, and in my spare time I try to make a living as an estate planning and small business lawyer. I’m grateful for a diverse mix which keeps things interesting, but I really enjoy being a judge.
