Mini Shell Adapter For Mossberg 12 Gauge Shotguns
I have seen two of these advertised, OpSol and Defender Tactical.

If you have tried either of these, I would be interested in a range report.

I have tried both, I am using the defender tactical in 2 mossbergs. The OPsol had to be removed to use the full size shells and it was easily removed from rough use. The DT one locks into two groves in the front of the trigger group and you can’t get it out w/o removing the pin and then the trigger group.

Plus you can run any length of shells in any manner. I load and use 2 3/4”, 2”, & 1 3/4” shells I make.

I use the Opsol in my Shockwave, the original model in which an Opsol means mini-shells only.

If you’re buying a new Shockwave, get the 590S. No adapter required, you can mix and match shell lengths.

It’s the only Shockwave I own, I also have two older (and totally reliable) 870 police magnums. I’m certain they do not take mini-shells.

I have both. Get the Defender Tactical adapter. The only thing the OPSol has over DT is that it costs about $5 less.

The Shockwave 590S is nice, but you pay $100+ more for something the DT does for $25.

If I were buying a shotgun today, it would probably be a 590S, but I already have a 590A1, so I'm just going to add an adapter.

I have the opsol I bought to try mini shells. It works fine and I have several Mossberg shotguns, so I dedicated it to a 500. It works great with no problems. But had I known about the defender I would have gone that route. The only drawback on the mini shells are the price of them. 32.00 for a box of 25.

Excuse my ignorance, but what are the benefits of mini shells?

They are to let you put more rounds in a magazine tube.

They offer the same shot and velocity by not suing a wad cup like a regular shotshell, so you have powder, shot card, shot, crimp or roll crimp.

I make/load my own shotshells and can use a shell 3 times with a roll crimp (I have to cut it off after each use shortening the shell)

So in my mossberg maverick riot gun I can put 5 shells in the tube, with the 1 3/4” shells I can stuff in 8.

The only drawback to the shortest ones, (1 3/4”) is that I can only get 6 00buck pellets in them vs the normal 9. If I use a 2” shell I can get 9 pellets in the tube.
