Door mount, pistol rack, magazine holder, etc.

I have a Field and Stream “21 gun safe.” As someone here mentioned in another thread, they must come up with that number using single shot break-action New England Pardners. I’m about to add a number of rifles and shotguns that I’ve inherited and i just don’t have space as it is. The wife unit says “sell some, I just don’t see the value.” She’s wrong, and that’s ok. However, that means I’ll need to try to make do with what I’ve got. I *might* be able to talk her into adding a small safe in the bedroom closet with room for two long arms and a pistol or two and that will help, but as it is, I need to organize what’s in there because I’m out of room.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Taking out the shelf with the slots for holding the long guns and using Rifle Rods allowed me to fit more in the space.

I also mounted peg board on the inside of the door and can hang just about anything.
I used plasti-dip on the metal hooks so I don't have to worry about scratching anything.

This is a homemade wooden pistol rack I made

Holds 8-10 pistols..one half of my liberty Franklin series safe has long guns and the other half has taxes, terabyte of computer, important papers, jewelry..etc

I use rifle rods for better space storage for the long guns vs storing around the outside

Yes, as MikeinNC did, I also made my own pistol racks. They allow for much denser storage than any rack you will buy.

Oh wow. I’d never heard of these. That’s definitely going to happen once I figure out what all has to go in there. Can’t really start until I pick up what the old man had left. I know there were a number of things promised, but towards the end, my mother couldn’t really find much. I suspect he sold a lot of stuff off to pay for booze and weed. My great-grandfather’s Parker double included. I’ll find out this week. Frown

Looks like I’ll be building a pistol rack. Does anyone like the door-mounted units? I could see them cutting into space for long arms is what gives me pause. Seems like a great idea, but not sure how it would work out in practice.

For pistol storage I’ve been using one of these for several years, still very happy with it.

I'm about out of room too, so I ended up putting all the rifles in gun socks and stacking them tight. It's a pain to dig them out if you need one from the back, but storage wise, they helped free up more space.

OP, as far as the door organizer, my safe came with one, there are six pockets to hold a M60 Revolver, two big pockets about 12” x4” and two big folder sized pockets on the bottom that are insulated. The whole organizers was OEM and is stretched around the backing plate that’s on the door.

Iv seen some organizers that were just Velcroed to the door carpet and they didn’t look sturdy enough to hang pistols on them.

I keep extra car keys in one pocket and a loaded smith n Wesson in top door pocket and that’s it.

For my pistols I’ve used these for several years and been very happy. They take advantage of the unused space just below a shelf and are made in the USA.

Here's the organizer I've got. It came with the safe.

I swapped to benchmasters stuff a few years ago when the normal plastic coated wire racks took up to much space.

https://benchmasterusa.com/gun-storage/

I have another set pistol holders from bench master arriving this week. Four for each row in the above photo, and second set of 12 for another safe.

I am going to be putting my 22lr's in a 3rd safe, to give me a bit more room throughout my safes. Right now most are hanging on my safe door.

For magazines I used the 10 round mag pouch holders screwed to my fortnox door

Be sure to put in a dri-rod or golden rod for humidity control.

I'd support the longer shelves with either pvc or wood dowel. The weight of guns and accessories will bow those with time.

I also use narrow wood dowel rods as rifle extenders for shorter overall guns. You have to jenga the long guns. I alternate between wider guns like modern sporting rifles versus over and under type.

Plenty of pistol organizer on amazon. I use the liberty safe wood racks and some of the wire hangers.

Get the light kit on amazon. I put one in my safe and it is a world of difference.

The first shelf in the top pic already is bowed slightly.

Yeah the shelves are usually made of MDF. If I had ammo or anything heavy I’d replace it with real plywood and re-use the OEM carpeting and edging
