How could they target a specific person this way? Presumably they would have to prep before the target arrived; they would have to know which pump the target would use. Unless they just want anybody - whoever arrives, doesn’t matter who?

My kid tells me of another warning. When traveling as a tourist, locals would give women bracelets or anklets. Seemingly as a gift. However, it is a way to "mark" the ladies to be targeted.

I am unaware of any dermally absorbed chemical capable of rapidly inducting reversible unconsciousness at a concentration you might get from the brief exposure of touching a tainted tissue.

If there were, it would be listed on the Schedules of Chemicals under the Chemical Warfare Convention if not outright banned by the FDA or the EPA.

Never heard of this, but it does at least hopefully get people to pay attention and keep their head on a swivel.

If I pulled up to a pump and saw tissue paper on it, I would go to another. It could be what this video was about, a snot filled tissue as a stupid prank, or just someone used tissue paper to prevent germs while pumping as I did when COVID first came out. Who knows, but better safe than sorry.

Utter bullshit.

Even beyond the blatant absurdity of these types of social medial rumor mill claims (gas pumps coated with instant knockout drugs?!), the reality is that this is simply not how human trafficking works.

Women aren't getting kidnapped from the grocery store/gas station/whatever, drugged, thrown into white panel vans, and sold off into prostitution. This isn't Taken. You aren't Liam Neeson.

Rather, emotionally/mentally/physically vulnerable people get manipulated and coerced over a long periods of time into being prostitutes by people they know and meet, a process referred to as "grooming".

This is firmly in the same category as the "Don't flash your headlights or you'll get shot by gang members" type of hysterical nonsense that has been making the rounds of chain letters, listserv, forums, and social media for decades. It's just the 2025 version.

I watched a video (5 years ago now)

That claimed that Wal Mart and Targets are like portals ,where people just disappear.
Mostly
Women .

It showed stalkers inside and out of the stores on cell phones talking to drivers in or near the parking lots.

The WalMart knows how many get grabbed but won't disclose or acknowledge this.

Coincidentally , a week later in November,
Quad City area law enforcement were on local news telling shoppers to go in threes ,not by themselves .

I'm also calling BS. I can't think of something generally obtainable that can knock someone out shortly after touching a tissue soaked/dusted with it. If it was fentanyl, that would likely be enough to kill you.

The tissue was either staged of some germaphobe was too lazy to throw it away after pumping.

Agreed. This seems like the sort of urban legend that gets passed around. Also, have we heard of any such actual events in the news? I have not, and that is the sort of story that the news would run night and day. Stranger abductions in the U.S. are quite rare. Who needs the risk, when there are plenty of aspiring immigrants and runaways to press into prostitution who are much less risky targets?

Being from Chicago, this "rumor" has not been disproven.
