Wow. Was just thinking of her for some reason. I always thought she was very underrated as an actor.

I was skiiing in Vail once and passed by a woman I swore looked like Loretta Swit. She saw me seeing her and just smiled. I later found out she lived there.

IMO, she was the best performer of the regular cast.

Alan Arbus had the best character.

I hope it was her!

Rest in peace, Ms. Swit.

RIP Ms Swit.

What a beautiful and classy woman!
She served me, a few other cops and a bunch of iron workers and crane operators breakfast.
She actually sat down with the ones at my table and talked to us as we ate.
A genuinely nice person.

I always thought that this scene of M*A*S*H was a pivotal part of the show as it was effectively the end of “Hot Lips” and the beginning of “Margaret”. She could not really play the former for much longer, especially after Frank Burns left; I read somewhere that one of the reasons that Larry Linvelle left the show was because there was no path for his Frank to develop and become ‘more’. I’m glad that they found a direction for Swit’s character to grow.

^Thank you. I was looking for that clip.

She later re-performed that scene in an interview. Nailed it then, too.

To me, season 5 when this episode appeared, was the beginning of the end of "M.A.S.H." as I knew it, it was barely hanging on. For me, the last good funny season was four before show creator and comedy writer Larry Gilbert left, and the end of season 5 was when comedy writer and producer Gene Reynolds left as well. IMO, not only Frank Burns, but all of the characters ran out of runway; towards the end of the series, it was too punch drunk to matter anymore. To this day, I will occasionally watch a M.A.S.H. rerun on MeTV, but only seasons 1-4.

It is too bad Swit did not get to work the Cagney & Lacey TV show; she filmed the pilot, but the MASH people in charge would not let her out of the final seasons of her contract to star in her own TV series.

I did not know that. She would have been very good on that show.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

MASH was way ahead of its time. You can watch that show today and it fits right in with current programming. Timeless…

We will miss you, Margaret.

I always enjoyed her character, but never figured out what she saw in Frank Burns, other than someone she could manipulate.

I'll bet she was a fun person to know in real life.

M.A.S.H. was great until Alan Alda got too big for his boots. He was a good drunk, but a terrible moralizer.

Give 'em hell in Heaven, Margaret!
