I tried the search function but was not able to answer my questions, so here goes. I am paying way too much for my DirecTV. I would like to go streaming but can't find a solution for my preferences. I mainly watch Fox News, OAN,Discovery,AHC. Local TV for NFL. Main watching is the MLB pkg for Red Sox and NHL pkg for Penguins. Any avenue available to access these channels?

We have been wit DTV for decades. I think we are abt about $115 +-. The whole streaming and what to do with who and the rise in those services have made a switch to much of a task for any potential savings as far as I can tell. Ymmv.

I recently cut the chord also from AT&T Direct TV and jumped on the streaming TV bandwagon. I went with an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to a Tablo DVR for the local channels. The DVR was purchased and connected to the OTA antenna to record any locals because it has an auto commercial skip feature. This is of course free to view just the initial costs associated with a streaming device (ROKU or Apple TV, etc) and the OTA antenna. The DVR is nice but optional.

Initially I experimented with streaming services to use with my Apple TV device. I contracted with HULU, SLING and PHILO to stream the network channels mostly to be able to use their recording functions for channels like HIST and Travel ch for their programs and Netflix for movies. I ended up finally settling on Amazon Prime for movies and just the OTA for local broadcasts. I found that I really didn't watch too many network shows and cancelled those.

There's a lot of options out there, plus you have the added benefit to pick and choose easily because of free trials and cancel when you wish without pre-contract cancellation fees. Plus I don't miss having to renegotiate the Direct TV service contract with AT&T every year to keep my costs from rising as they did year after year.

So for your question, a good OTA antenna for the local sports, news, etc and a network channel service like PHILO, HULU, SLING etc for the Discovery and/or sports pkgs.

In the end I cut my monthly AT&T Direct TV bill from $185 to $95 now. You've definitely asked in the right place though. Plenty of good advice here that helped me recently make my decision to cutting the chord much easier for those wishing to do so.

I believe Hulu Plus will give you what you want for about $55 / month.

We can’t get OA stations where we live so I can’t help you there.
