I-95 in Northern Virginia shutdown. Some stranded for over 15 hours >>>>>>>
I lived in Fairfax Co. for 13 yrs. The mere prediction of any snow sends people into a panic. Grocery store shelves are bare, lines are ridiculous, schools are closed. Then there's a little snow and the world just shuts down. I'll never get it. Growing up in NJ I don't think I ever once had a snow day and we got lots of snow every year. Somehow we always made it to school, maybe an hour or two late. But it never closed for snow.

^^^Things have changed in New Jermany...Actually they've changed pretty much everywhere. School is now often cancelled the day BEFORE the predicted storm hits!

I preach and preach to the other half about this all the time.
Keep the car filled up, snacks, blanket, etc..
A few years back I got stuck on the PA turnpike for hours and hours due to wrecks, ice and snow.
It is a surreal experience. The only reason I was fully prepared because I had all my gear and clothing with me because I left my parents house in Cols, OH and was heading straight to work at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
gov says the rain prevented the salt pre treat,
granted, it was a lot of snow dumped in a small area
Originally posted by Sunset_Va: Trying to figure was the wreck the deciding factor in this backup, or VDOT not preparing the roadway? Applying brine, salt, etc.before the storm?
Yes.
Quite literally. It was those factors and more.
VDOT failed to treat the roads ahead of the storm, claiming afterward that the wet road surface would have rendered pre-treatment a waste of time and resources.
VDOT also failed to close the bloody road once the debacle started. Even with the cameras everywhere VDOT is claiming they didn't know how bad the road was until it was waaaay past to late.
Once the disaster unfolded, they didn't do anything to relive the plight of the folks stuck in the traffic jam. People on four-wheelers would have brought at least water into people stuck in their cars.
In short, it was a complete and total clusterfuck.

Yeah that’s bad. Get the friggin National Guard out there ASAP!
That’s exactly what they exist for.
Back in the mid 2000's, can’t recall what year exactly, we had a similar situation in Pennsylvania on I-80 which runs East-West basically right through the middle of the state. Ed Rendell was Governor at the time and he mobilized the PA National Guard pretty quickly and got people out of there before they froze to death.
Governor Blackface just doesn’t GAF anymore I guess.

he said, heard on the news this am, that the NG would have taken too much time to get there and do anything, and used the Jan 6 (his words) insurrection as an example,
he said the VSP were in a better position to handle it

I was driving North on 95 from Florida on Monday night/Tuesday morning. There were no warnings that I95 was closed. None of the electronic advisory signs had anything about it. Waze App didn't report on it...great job there. Luckily my Garmin GPS warned me at Richmond that 95 was closed. I got detoured through Charlottesville and into western VA, then into West Virginia, and western Maryland. It was a 5.5-6 hour detour. Lots of snow, ice, and trees down along the way. A white knuckle ride in an RV for sure. VA dropped the ball totally.

Found this video on Youtube concerning Tesla Model 3 using 7000 watts to heat the vehicle. Which I in my opinion is very high. Anyone with a Tesla can confirm if this is the same with your Tesla vehicle ??? God Bless !!!
PS: We also know that batteries do not like extreme cold; which reduces its capacity so that adds that to the mix.

Get your ass back in the kitchen, Rosemary. Those sandwiches aren't going to make themselves.

If you’re driving an RV, does that mean Rosemary can tag along?

Possibly four inches on the way, an emergency is declared; will Sen. Kaine get stuck again? The Commonwealth waits...

My impression of Kaine is that if there's four inches anywhere near him, he'll want to get stuck with it.
