Why is that?[/QUOTE]

State law on legal cartridges allowed for the taking of deer. Indiana had straight wall cartridge laws like that until a couple years ago. They changed the law and now I use a .243

It's interesting to see the various state laws concerning hunting and how different they can be.

In next-door NJ you CANNOT hunt deer with a rifle, it's got to be a shotgun. Makes sense given the population density of NJ, the flat non-mountainous terrain and the small size of the state.

Here in PA we are not allowed to use any semi-auto rifle to hunt deer, it was considered "not sporting" or something. Most guys use bolt actions, but you still see some lever actions and pump rifles being used. The PA Game Commission just recently did allow the use of AR-15 type rifles for game like coyote and smaller game but not for deer.

Congratulations. I thought the title was talking about a buck knife.

I got the knife but I haven't gotten my own buck yet. I don't think it will happen either.

But congrats to you. Hope you enjoy the meat.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Congrats! My dad has been hunting on my uncle's land since the 1970s and went almost 3 decades of never getting a buck!

PA has fanatastic gun laws...great hunting, but the hunting rules are stupid as hell. No hunting on Sunday, 1 buck, impossible to get a doe permit, no semi-auto or .223...and they wonder why less people are hunting.
