Staged publicity stunt.

Why?

It put the whole thing at the top of Drudge this morning. Otherwise, it would have just been 1/4 way down the page. Maybe they think it will work like NAPCAR and next year people will tune in to see another wreck.

It's an honor just to be nominated. Or something like that.

"May I say too that much of what I put in this book was inspired by the grotesque prices paid for works of art during the past century. Tremendous concentrations of paper wealth have made it possible for a few persons or institutions to endow certain sorts of human playfulness with inappropriate and hence distressing seriousness. I think not only of the mudpies of art, but of children's games as well- running, jumping, catching, throwing.
Or dancing.
Or singing songs."

-Excerpt from Author's Note from the Novel Bluebeard by Kurt Vonnegut.

The mixup certainly reduces the political comment fallouts. Hmmm... I wonder.

Watching that show was not even a remote consideration....nobody in my house even mentioned it let alone wanted to watch it. I remember as a kid we all used to watch the show. Today it's just not the same.

We haven't watched since Bob Hope left due to age & then Johnny took over. After Mr Carson left, so did we.

Ps... I guess showing my age. They were fantastic hosts, also the actors, writing and movies seemed so much better.

I watched Gangs of New York tonight. Hadn't seen it in quite awhile and had recorded it a week or two ago when we had free movie channels. Amazing performance by Day-Lewis and good performances by others.

As the saying goes, "based on true events." Helluva time in American history.

One of my favorite films (despite Leonardo DiCaprio Wink).

Daniel Day-Lewis is a helluva actor.

Not at all, you'll get to see the only thing that mattered over and over today and beyond. In an of itself, that's a dammed shame, seeing that bunch of assholes in success or failure is hard to take.

I want everyone to be clear that it is purely a coincidence that a year after the Oscars were criticized for being too white, that black actors won Best Supporting Actor and Actress and a movie with an all-black cast won Best Picture. Again, this is pure coincidence.

That's what I think too. They saw what it did for the pageant in terms of garnering publicity.

Which supports my point that all of the entertainment business (movies, music, and tv) has really hit a dearth of unoriginality and subsists mostly on remakes and copycats.

The guy who gave the acceptance speech moments ago and then turns around saying, "This is real. La la land won...." couldn't even act well enough to show the mixed emotions and chagrin that would have going through a winner-then-loser.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

And best picture was about a black man struggling with his own sexuality. Make him a muslim and you'd have an SJW Victimhood trifecta.
