Back in the early 1970's I bought a pair of B&L/Ray Ban Ambermatic shooting glasses. I loved those glasses and wore them for years until I broke the frame. At the time I went to a Ray Ban dealer to see about getting the frames replaced, I had the lenses. I was told that the lenses were worth nothing and the frame was expensive and not worth replacing. The Ambermatics were by then out of production. I kept the broken glasses and thought someday I would track down a frame that the lenses could be installed in. Now, 50 years later, I have a real problem trying to see at night when headlight glare blinds me ( already had cataract surgery). I mentioned this to my eye Dr. and was told to try amber or yellow sunglasses to help with this problem. I tried a cheap pair of yellow Tasco shooting glasses that I won in a raffle, they did seem to help. Now I want to resurrect my old Ray Ban Ambermatics. I looked on Ebay and was stunned as to how much these are going for. I did spot a frame without the side ear pieces that was somewhat reasonable, I thought maybe I could find some ear pieces that would mount to the Ray Ban frames. But I worry this Ebay find could be good money after bad. I thought I had saved the ear pieces but can,t find them now. Yesterday I attempted to contact Ray Ban but all efforts failed. I also tried a couple Web stores that said they sell frames but again came up empty. Does anybody know of a place that I could buy a frame or the parts to fix a frame for a reasonable price?

Sorry, don't know of any place to source legacy Ray Ban frame parts. I use a good frame (in my case, Kikuchi) and filled it w/ Rx light grey tinted polarized lenses. The polarization helps at night, especially when the road is wet from rain. The tinting is the minimum level of grey so that the polarization is effective but still usable at night. Polarization doesn't work w/ yellow tints well (almost nil). If you don't need Rx, I'd still get a light grey polarized. Of course, this is for night and day use. For day use only, I'd get the darker, sunglass neutral gray tint, polarized. I use Hoya Phoenix lens material. Anti-reflective coating w/ blue block. For off the shelf, I'm partial to the Rudy Project (made in Italy) offerings. IME, much better than the chicom Oakleys and such. Maui Jim is good but glass lenses (usually? always?) - I prefer trivex. "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." Fuse lenses. They can probably fix your frames for a lot less than Ray-Ban. Or they might have replacement frames available and would even install your lenses, should you decide to do so. ___________________________________________________________________________ "....imitate the action of the Tiger."

Can they fit lenses into a different frame now? I think I've tried that before and the optician said not possible - the curvature of lenses usually don't match the frame. This was for Rx lenses though; perhaps non-Rx is okay? Would save a bunch of money if I could fit Rx lenses into new (smaller) frames). Wiley X and Oakley sell frames with amber lenses. I have both brands in the multi lens versions and I really like the rose colored for low light when hunting. You can get them with a yellow lens, the Oakleys are expensive, the Wiley a bit cheaper. If you are a Vet you can get a little discount on Gov-X. https://www.wileyx.com/product...riant=44173053952197 https://www.oakleysi.com/en-us/product/W0OO9296C

Try a local LensCrafters type place. They have different lens blanks that they can cut to certain frames- at least I’m pretty sure that’s how that works. If you go in with your lenses they may be able to cut them to a frame they sell. This assumes your lenses are some type of polymer- and that you’d be okay with them cutting them somewhat to fit a new frame.

The lenses are glass. | |||

With money, anything is possible. As mentioned, your best bet is to find a place that will edge the lenses into a new frame. This will not be cheap, and the business will almost *certainly* have you sign a waiver holding them harmless from breakage. There are fewer and fewer places that will edge glass on-site…but this most certainly *can* be done. The question is, *will* anyone do it?

When mine broke, I would take they to my local jeweler and he would solder them.
