Losing the war with the hair on top of my head. Sides and back are fine but yeah. Tried a year of minoxidil with no luck. Not willing to pay for transplants and certainly not gluing on a wig like my coworker. Next best option is to shave it, so what do we use? What do we like. Research has pointed me towards the Remington Balder Pro.

Welcome to the club. I joined about 25 years ago after I started going bald in 7th grade.

I "bic'd" it for 20 of those and switched to the Remington Balder Pro 5 years ago. I'm on my second one and willing to keep buying them. Work great!

My 10-year old Norelco 3600 with click-on stubble guard works fine.

Any decent electric trimmer with no guard. I use a Wahl. Shaving with a razor is just too much of a PITA to be worth it. I can use the trimmer while bending over my sink in 5 minutes.

Depends on how close you want it. I used a trimmer for a while but I like it close. Didn't work out. The Remington isn't bic close, but good enough. I can do my head in 2-3 minutes twice a week. Anywhere, no sink or clean-up required. The Remington is great. I also tried various foil razors. Cheap to expensive. Horrible.

Just get the Remington and be done. It's cheap. No need for the titanium blade. You'll need a trimmer for the first shave if you've never done this before.

One year into the Remington Balder Pro, I have no complaints at all. We'll see how long it lasts, but so far so good.

Been using Schick Xtreme 3 forever. Great stuff. Happy with it. Once in a while, I go to their Xtreme 4. The crazy thing about the 4 is that you feel like it’s not doing anything when running it on the scalp, but then when you touch your scalp, damn, there’s nothing but smooth skin. Not even a stub remains.

I had some cheap chinesium shaver I bought during Black Friday in 2024 off spamazon but it is close to dying. It actually worked very well but I use mine in the shower and it stays wet so the finish started deteriorating. I think I only paid $30 for it so I got my use out of it.

I have the Braun foil head shaver that Costco puts on sale every year and it works but does not get close enough and misses areas where the hair is longer.

I just ordered the Skull Shaver Pitbull Platinumn Pro from Costco to see how it works. I will let you know next week when I get it.

I’m saving the $40-50 a month I spent on haircuts but now I end up buying a new shaver every year. I am still coming out ahead of getting haircuts.

Headblade works for me. Takes about 2 minutes while I’m in the shower. Quick and easy, no muss, no fuss.

I bought an Oster Classic 76 over 17 years ago and it’s still going strong. One of the best purchases I’ve made.

If so, I concur. I tried the Kojak look for maybe a year, and that's what I used. Quick, easy, inexpensive.

I use what I use on my face, a DE safety razor.

Before that I was using a schick 2 blade disposable but they discontinued them and went to the 3 blade and I didn't feel like going out and buying a new handle for their even more expensive set-up.

In either case, if I go x amount of days, I use a salon style trimmer to remove as much as I can. Then I shower. Then I shave in front of the mirror as a DE is not real fast but I find it satisfying.

I had problems with Headblade and went back to a regular multi-blade razor. Too frequently, my scalp was getting nicked, and I do not have an abnormally shaped head. Further, I couldn't chalk it up to carelessness, going too fast, or any type of contour anomaly on my head where I wasn't using proper technique. It also occurred with both brand new and blades with a few shaves on them, so they were 'broken in' so to speak. I even questioned the quality of the blades, looking at them under magnification to see if there was an issue with the edge, but that wasn't it either. I also always kept my Headblade razor in the case, so it wasn't due to being rough handled and/or damaged in any way. In the end I concluded that the issue was due to the design of the razor, which is cool (it even has wheels!), but flawed in my opinion/experience. By pushing the blade across the scalp, which is on the front of the razor, it would 'dig in' occasionally, resulting in a nick or worse. Dragging the blade behind the handle of the typical razor eliminated that issue entirely. I started out using a typical multi-blade razor, had switched to the Headblade as it seemed like a very cool, purpose designed tool for the job, and then ultimately, I switched back.

I've been shaving my head for 15 years. When I decided to shave it, I asked my wife, "What would you think if I shaved my head and grew a Goatee, not necessarily in that order?", and she was supportive, indicating, "you have a good looking head, go for it." So I grew the Goatee, and two weeks later I shaved my head. After I did it, I immediately thought (and even said out loud!), 'Man, I should've done this years ago'!

Wahl trimmer works for me. Don’t need to get it cue ball smooth.

For what it's worth I started finasteride at 31 in 2016 when my hair began to thin and within two months it completely halted my hairloss. I am not a responder to topical minoxidil so I've been on a low dose of oral minoxidil for sometime and it definitely improved the thickness of existing hair and I had moderate regrowth in the areas where I thinned prior to finasteride.

I had to start doing this around 20 years ago, I realized I was going to end up looking like this guy and said NOPE



I use a quality disposable 5 blade razor and chuck it after one use. No need to be slicing or scraping up my head to save a buck.

I use a handheld mirror to get the back, standing at the bathroom mirror. Use hot water to soak your head first to soften your skin up then take your time and do it twice more gently rather than once more forcefully if needed.

Then you can be a badass!

No fancy head shaving contraptions needed. I use a basic Schick Hydro 5 face razor. Any handheld razor will do. But if your hair is longer than stubble length, you'll want to buzz it with electric trimmers before finishing with a blade.

And since you've never shaved your head before, I'd recommend buzzing it with a low guard and just going with that for the first several weeks, to get some sun exposure on the skin, before attempting to go fully bald. This will avoid the goofy "cue ball" stark white phase.

Go slow at first with the blade, to learn the curves of your head and the various changes in hair direction. The back of the head is mainly done by feel. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to knock out your entire face and head in a few minutes.

Invest in a mirror that you can hang in your shower, though you will eventually do most of it by feel. Shave in the shower after letting the hot water and steam thoroughly soak in, and washing your entire head with face soap. Use a quality shaving cream or hair conditioner (yes really) as lubrication. Use a fresh blade every week or so. Investing in a styptic pencil is a good idea, to deal with nicks while you're learning. Be very careful with any moles or skin tags you may have on your head or neck.

That’s it, although I don’t think you can use regular disposable blades. I get mine from Amazon. The blades last me a while so it’s not terribly expensive.

I use this every other day. Quick and easy. I have a replacement blade set shipped every three months.

I have been using a Skull Shaver Pitbull silver for almost a year now. You can use it wet or dry and does a decent job.
