I know this will be TMI.....

Recently spent multiple weeks in Asia. I think towards the end of the 2nd week, I started to get frequent urges to pee. All the time - I was worried I was becoming incontinent. I could usually hold it and the urges might pass for awhile. But I was constantly worried about peeing in the middle of nowhere.

I was going to see a doctor as soon as I got back to the states.

But now back in the states, the urges are gone. I just pee like normal.

Should I still see a doctor? Known phenomenon? What?

Yes, a well known phenomenon called 'aging'.

I had similar symptoms with my most recent kidney stone. I can't remember having the same issue with previous stones though.

You may have had a minor urinary tract infection that has since cleared up.

A persistent urge to pee is common with UTIs.

You were drinking a lot more water so you had to pee more often.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." If you're getting that along with an occasionall stinging upstream, it may be small kidney stones.

If you've really been pushing caffeine lately, that may be part of the problem, too.

Definitely sounds like a UTI. Just pop some antibiotics for a week and it should clear up.

At my age, I have to pee every four hours. On the dot. Hence I only sleep four hours a day now.

Hmmm. UTI? Because of disrupted sleep patterns, I was drinking a lot of coffee. But no more than typical for these trips and never had these urges before. But maybe because I was drinking more “real” coffee and espresso based drinks from real coffee shops rather than just hotel coffee? Otherwise maybe not too different on this trip. UTI sounds like a possibility I hadn’t considered. As the urges are basically gone, perhaps passed? Wonder how I could have caught something. That would have been right after Taiwan....

I was definitely “European” for awhile.

What’s the harm in checking in with the doc? Minor scheduling hassle, copay..
But if something was exacerbated by the stress of travel, and then settled down, it might be worth a look. Subclinical stuff doesn’t manifest until stress of some sort occurs.
Best of luck.

He's an odd question, when you had the strong urges to pee, were you at altitude? Sometimes when people are much higher elevation-wise the urges to pee can become stronger.
