Mars_AttacksFarewell Captain Picard.
Patrick Stewart has died.
I first saw him in Dune in 1985, then as Captain Picard in Star Trek TNG.
What an amazing actor and long career.

Hound DogHe was a very skilled actor.
His scenes verbally sparring with John Delancie (Q) were amazing.

r0gueMy favorite role of his was as Karla in the Smiley's People series on the BBC. Given my avatar, no one is surprised. It wasn't much of a role for him --
just two episodes and no lines! He was so young then (39 and 42 by episodes).
From Claude: Patrick Stewart played Karla, Smiley’s Soviet opponent, in two of the BBC adaptations. He appears in one episode of each.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979): He appears in Episode 4, “How It All Fits Together.” Smiley recounts his one meeting with Karla, a flashback to the Delhi prison. Stewart’s performance is wordless, as the character is only glimpsed.
Smiley’s People (1982): He appears in the final episode, Episode 6. This is where Smiley finally confronts Karla, in the Berlin bridge scene. He hands the lighter back, wordlessly. Only the gesture. Patrick Stewart and Alec Guinness!!! Please. How can you beat that!?

sjtillX has been full of tributes to Patrick Stewart the man: generous philanthropist, patient to fans, hilarious out of character--a quiet hero.
