sigspecopsConsider the awesome power of a Hollywood sawed off shotgun. It can lift a person off of their feet and send them flying backwards.

Yea, and sweeping everything and everyone that could possibly be swept including themselves and everyone on their team, the general public, and any and all property of any kind regardless of consequences if an errant bullet exited the barrel.

sig2392Most have been covered.
Guns that seem to shoot forever.
Bad guys who never hit anyone; all their sights must be off.
Everyone racking slides, the second time, nothing ejects.
People getting shot and acting like it is nothing.
Guns go off next to their ears, and they keep talking and hearing fine.

bobtheelfHearing a hammer cocked every time anyone does anything with a gun to draw your attention to the fact that a gun is present even if you've heard that hammer cock three times already.

rock185I've seen most of the stuff mentioned, either on TV or in the movies. I've learned to accept that stuff, because that is just the way it is, has been, and will be in the future. The details that we notice DO NOT MATTER to the writers, producers, directors, the "talent" or to probably about 99.5% of the intended audience...

That one is hard to miss…
I mean C’Mon man! It’s a six shooter!
Same as Tombstone with Doc firing godknowshowmany rounds out of his revolver at the Corral.

Daniel Craig as Bond in Spectre and using his Walther PPK from a moving boat at full speed on the Thames chasing a jet helicopter and takes it down with a 500 yard shot hitting the engine... Yeah, that was a bit much..... would it have been too much to have at least a rifle on the boat for that scene, even some futuristic electromagnetic digital EMP shooting rifle would have been better.

KDRThe Final Boss dual wielding Desert Eagles. I'm not saying you can't, but who the hell is carrying around two of those things.
Gov't officials (police, FBI, etc.) carrying firearms that aren't correct. Recently saw one where an agent (modern times) carried a stainless PPK
Not gun related, but why is it always the evil boss man that is the best fighter / hardest to kill?

FlashlightboyMy pet peeve is gear worn incorrectly. It may not be germane to the story but when it's wrong, it just kind of removes some of the believability of the character.
Years ago I was at an event with the Harry Bosch author Michael Connelly and I mentioned that Harry's spare ammo was worn incorrectly on the belt. I said scenes have his bullets pointing backwards and at other times forward. He said the prop people take care of that stuff and whatever they decide is what is done.
I just answered and said it's always bullets forward and just telling the props people to be consistent in doing that makes the character more believable.
I can't say that he ever talked to them or maybe Props figured it out on their own, but a couple of months later, all the spare ammo was bullets forward.

That's how he got to be the boss.

bob rambergThrowing away an empty pistol is one of my pet peeves. The gun is out of ammo so its worthless. "I'll just throw this $800 gun on the street where anyone can find it, never mind that I could use it for a bluff."
Another is the bad guy who pulls a .50cal Desert Eagle out of a shoulder holster under his suit. Like who is going to walk around with that monster all day.
My daughter is a screen writer and I have pointed out a lot of this stuff to her. She has promised to consult with me if she has to write any scenes involving guns.

SpeedbirdNot a peve to say, but more of a face-palm cringe:
- Dude in full battle rattle; rifle/AR runs dry, he just drops grip and switches to handgun
- No one EVER uses smoke grenades. Those are real world game changers
- Rare use of fragmentation grenades (And when they do, its like a 1 lb block of C4)

cslingerSeveral of mine have been mentioned like….
-hammer down 1911s
-All the extraneous noises (clicking etc.)
-The sheer power of firearms that blow men back 10 feet.
-etc.
-20 round revolvers
My biggest ones though are
-Lack of Muzzle discipline of seemingly well trained units/groups/operators
-Unlimited ammo. Not necessarily a lack of reloads. I can always suspend belief and figure there was a reload off camera so to speak. What bugs me is when a MASSIVE amount of ammo is expended. For example there was, I think a ROOKIE episode, where a couple dudes rob a bank with either Uzis or M10/11’s. Firefights ensue. I started the math. I ran the rate of fire based on the time shooting etc. etc. and each guy would have had to have been carrying like 70 mags.
Now if the movie is cheesy as a whole then I can forgive any of it and actually enjoy most of it. It’s just when it’s played “seriously”.

cslingerAnd definitely suppressors. I just “love” when there is a gunfight or shooting in a crowd of people and nobody is the wiser because….SILENCERS!!!
I mean Jesus you could have two dudes shooting modern Welrods at each other and there would be a weee bit of crowd reaction

cslingerThis thread reminds me of the scene in Appaloosa where a bunch of dudes get into a gun fight and it looks like it will be some long Hollywood old west thing and then BANG! It’s over and pretty much everybody drops and (paraphrasing) somebody says something like “what happened” and another guys says “I guess everybody could shoot”. I loved that scene.
