Back in 2019 I posted on here about my wife having to get a bone marrow transplant due to leukemia. In the last three years she has had countless visits with her oncologist here at home and with the transplant oncologist at Vanderbilt. Her oncologist here saw her today for a regular visit and he told her that her chance of relapse at this point was very small and he would see her again in a year, awesome news to hear. We were at Vanderbilt in February and her oncologist there told her the same thing only they would see her every six months for a couple more visits then push it out to yearly. She still struggles with the stroke like issues from her bad reaction to cyterabine (chemo) but she’s doing well and has been in great spirits the last year. So far we have been blessed and I pray to God that it stays that way. The three months we had to live in Nashville (Vanderbilt required us to be close to the hospital) were very very hard on her physically and emotionally but she did it. I honestly don’t think I could have been strong enough to endure what she had to endure physically. A lot of that was a result of the weakness of her body from the stroke and the chemo she received right prior to transplant. I’m so proud of her. I quit my job to be her caregiver. I was a retired LEO but working another job at the time. We have grown extremely close in the last few years and the time I’ve spent with her has been priceless. Just wanted to give an update.

That is great news! I lost both my parents at relatively young age of 55 (both), so I am very happy to see those who beat such dreaded diseases. Here’s your wife’s good health.

It's a blessing to read your testimony. May those blessings be returned 10-fold!!

Prayers sent for what must have been, and continues to be, an extremely challenging situation.
Growing closer together is definitely a bonus.

Congratulations!

I believe I may have responded to your original post. My wife was diagnosed with CML in '92 and had a BMT at the University of Michigan Hospital in '98. She was a 5 of 6 match from an unrelated donor, so her chance for survival wasn't great. She was hospitalized for 8 months and we nearly lost her 4 times; from anaphylactic shock, pericarditis, and twice from blood loss. The experience really made clear what the important factors in life are.

Today her kidney function is slightly reduced but she in good health overall. We call her our medical miracle.

Very happy to hear your positive update
