Rat's are health conscious nowadays.
Try a little endive, apple and kale salad with edamame and raspberry balsamic vinaigrette.

cmparrishTry bananas. Last mouse that we had in the house, that was the only thing that would attract him. We tried peanut butter but he was not having any of that. Bananas worked well.

Sometimes it is worthwhile to ignore higher powers. Sadly sometimes not.

rburgGreat white hunter here... For several months running I won the championship at the dairy I worked for in the 1970s. We tried all the common baits. Each works for a while and then the cleaver little bastards learn. For me the best bait was sour cream. I've not heard of beef jerky, but I'd give it a try, too. Keep track of your traps and try to remember how you've baited them. It was fun when you're working away and suddenly you hear the snap of a trap. All work comes to an end and everyone goes and checks their traps.
Tricks include making the trigger soft and easy to set off. Sometimes the damn mice will spring it. They often survive, but leave their tail behind to taunt us.

Southflorida-lawIf you want fast results, fry up some bologna and use that as bait.

Jim ShugartWe use a mixture of rolled oats, peanut butter, and raisins. The oats keeps the peanut butter from being too messy and the raisin is hard to get off the trigger without catastrophic results.

Fuck me, have you seen the price of arugula lately?

Granola what. A chunk of granola bar ? The granola I've eaten is loose oats in a bag, nothing that would seem to automatically stick to a trap trip device.

Granola stuck onto peanut butter or in the middle of a glue trap.

I use the store bought bait/kill green blocks with great success. I tried numerous other things first- the gel sticky pads, never caught a rat but plenty of little lizards and hated seeing them suffer, springs loaded types but they always ate the bate and never were struck by the bar, (although I have).
the key is to use a cotton ball, work the peanut butter in to the cotton ball,
tie the cotton ball on the lever with the wire from a bread tie,,
works like a charm on mice, they have to tug on the cotton to get the peanut butter,
never had a rat problem, so no answers there

arfmelYou can remove lizards and snakes from a glue trap by spraying them and the trap with Pam™️ cooking oil spray.
