One church had a thanksgiving meal last sunday , no charge , 300 people attended

another did it also 500 people attended.

a shelter offered a free meal and 1200 got fed .

and there is a fella down at the mall who will be preparing meals for those needing it, of over
2000 people

they all accept donations but it's not a requirement

Our church has a holiday food drive each year to give a needy family a supply of food. The recipients are referred to us by people who are aware of the need.
We use shopping lists and buy for households that range from one to five members. The teen church members deliver the food boxes on a Saturday before Christmas.

My wife's former church has a program they call "Welcome Table" that serves a few hundred twice a month. There is another local congregation that maintains a "food pantry" that distributes groceries to the needy, they have several food drives throughout the year to collect items for distribution.

Both of these programs rely solely on volunteers to provide the necessary labor. Even inside the DC beltway, in one of the most affluent areas of the country, there seems to be no shortage of need.

My church works with a local food pantry and also assists with a downtown facility that serves meals to the needy.

We will serve and house about 300-350 men at the homeless shelter tomorrow night. They likely do in every major city.
