Too old to run,
too mean to quit!
posted
I have been using firefox for a long time. Suddenly a while back it came up with some "security" problem message and will not run.

Tried several times to download a new copy, still no help.

I am currently using Chrome, but do not care all that much for it.

Internet Explorer comes up with several pages of crap, every time I start it, not to mention a crap load of advertisements, and takes forever to do any kind of search.

Any thoughts on why Firefox will not run?

Any help, greatly appreciated.

I use Firefox with little or no difficulty. I think the current version is 54.0.1

You may have some crap on your computer.
Have you recently run a scan with Microsoft Essentials?

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Even if you uninstall Firefox your profile remains on the machine. When you reinstall Firefox it picks up your old profile and all your settings. You should try to run the Firefox profile manager and either setup a new profile or delete your old one altogether. Then you will be starting from scratch with Firefox.

Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles

1. Run Malware Bytes
2. Reset your browsers and delete all cache.
3. Make sure the latest updates are run on the OS
4. Uninstall then reinstall Firefox if you have to.

Firefox has been squirrely for a couple of months now.

The last update helped, but we're not out of the woods yet.

I have issues with some damn script hanging up certain web pages.

Hope they fix it soon. Its my go to browser.

Downloaded it, ran quick scan on it. Detected no problems.

Decided to run full scan, which will probably take quite a while.

We will see.

Thanks, for the tip.

My computer is old and uses Windows Vista. I started having problems with Firefox, to include photos and other things not working properly. I deleted Firefox and have been using Maxthon 5 instead. It seems to work very well.

I recently had the same problem.

I hadn't paid attention, I had the 64 bit version. Reinstalls didn't work but those were 32 bit. Sadly I didn't include a link to the 64 bit FF, it wasn't that easy to find. Give that a try, it sounds like we suffered the exact same problem.

In the meantime go to the Chrome extension store and download and activate Ad block:
