A woman with a concealed carry permit shot and killed a teen who tried to rob her at gunpoint Tuesday morning on the Far South Side, according to Chicago police.
The 25-year-old woman was standing on a corner when the teen approached around 5:40 a.m. in the 500 block of West 103rd Street in the Fernwood neighborhood, police said.
When the teen pulled out a gun, the woman grabbed her own and fired one shot, hitting the teen in the neck, police said. The teen ran off but was found a block away and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
The teen remained unidentified as of Tuesday evening, but an autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

In my experience with thieves, they usually don't wake up early to do thievin', they're still riding the high from the night before.

It was pointed out that Illinois has a law about carrying weapons on public transportation. Supposedly, had she gotten onto the bus, she was waiting for...

newtoSig765Under the circumstances, especially the positive publicity, I don't see the woman being prosecuted, but I doubt she'll get away with carrying on a Chicago City bus in the future. It's a really bad law, among the worst in the country, and the reason I haven't bothered to get a CC Permit myself.
Our CPD friends would know for sure, but I think printing is a felony if you're caught. Who needs that? It's bad enough the criminals are after you, but having to fear the police is outrageous.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

There are no additional restrictions there, and I think the law was set up in such a way that local municipalities and counties could not override state law.

Tens of thousands have CCW permits and live in Chicago.
The CCW permit supersedes other carry violations. If your caught with a gun and DON'T have CCW permit it would be MUCH harsher punishment than if you have CCW permit. With the CCW permit you can't be charged with more than a misdemeanor. After 3 CCW violations you lose your CCW permit.
Getting caught with a gun on the bus and holding a CCW permit would get you a misdemeanor charge and probably a $150 ticket.
If I travel on public transportation in the city you can bet I will most likely roll the dice and bring my gun, I will gladly take the ticket and pay the fine. If I ever needed my weapon to defend against grave bodily harm or death, it would be a small price to pay.
