Tough to beat Rockport for comfort and value. I have a couple of pairs.

I rotate two pairs of Allen Edmonds Fifth Avenues with Dainite soles at my job. I typically put 3-5 miles daily on them and have had them two years. Rotating is key.
They have plenty of life left in them, they grip waxed floors and carpets well, and seem impervious to the elements as my job requires walking outdoors in all types of Alabama weather.
Both pairs were “factory seconds” with small defects. Well above 150.00 per pair though.
I wear Allen Edmonds as well. The Dainite soles wear really well. The Fifth Ave's go on sale several times a year. I think the 5th Aves with Dainite sole were down to $279 for the Father's Day sale.
Depending on someone's needs, you can always have a cobbler glue rubber sole guards on. This can typically run between $40-$50 depending on where you go.
Occasionally I'll find a good deal on Allen Edmonds Factory Seconds in my size and I'll add rubber sole guards.

Ecco is a good choice, and nhracecraft is right, they do look like actually dressy shoes. Well made, long lasting. A step up from $120 shoes.
