Wonder why banks and jewelry stores don't open in such neighborhoods....?

Pawn shops and payday/title loans have higher margins and fill the gap for these folks.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Target is NOT leaving Chicago. They are just closing stores in certain neighborhoods. I'm sure I don't have to tell anyone here which neighborhoods those are and what the problems are in those stores.

Yes, racists hate for black people to have stores in their neighborhoods. It's been a Klan conspiracy for many years now. Blacks can only have places for bail bonds, liquor stores and soul food restaraunts.

Got it. So the big wigs at Target (in Minneapolis, which might as well be rural Mississippi) got together and concocted a plan to really stick it to some black folks: spend a whole bunch of money on some stores and employees then, when the stores are nice and busy, abruptly shut them down.

Do people really think corporate executives, who are under constant pressure to increase profits, work this way?

Kroger did the same in Cincy.
If I remember correctly the particular store had not turned a profit in 10 years with a loss of over 11 million for those 10 years.
The local folks said Kroger was racist and needed to do more for the local community. To me they had been giving over 1 million a year to that community for a decade.
Bet that is ALOT more than anyone else had given.

It was maybe fifteen years ago that I was doing my route in my truck, re-supplying some of the hardware stores that handled my rental equipment.

I pulled up to one store that I had not visited for a month or two, walked up to the door and found it locked. Looked in through the glass, the place was empty. Bare shelves, not a thing left in the store.

Taped to the inside of the window, where you could read it from outside of the store, was a letter "To Whom It May Concern." The letter announced that the store was closed, and in one paragraph, it actually said, "We're out of here. Fuck you very much."

The letter said that during the years the store had been there, the owner had supported the community, sponsoring (with money) a Little League team, donating to community causes, etc. The community had rewarded him by shoplifting to the tune of thousands of dollars a month, buying items and abusing them and then bringing them back for refunds, break-ins and burglary of power tools, vandalism, etc.

This was an individually owned store (as all of my customers are), so the owner, once he was fed up, made his own decision, got out of that location, and cut his losses.

Pro tip: if your community sucks, it’s your fault and your neighbors fault. It is not the fault of people who don’t live in your community. If we can’t agree on that, life is gonna be shitty for you, sorry, but I’ve got things to do to improve my own life. Bye.

Welcome to Detroit, which used to be home of JL Hudson on Woodward. The store was closed in the 80s and look at Detroit now. Coincidentally, Hudson's used to be headquartered in Detroit, but moved to Minneapolis. They became Dayton-Hudson and then Target Corporation.

From 1900 to 2010 the Asian population in Detroit has increased 10,000%. Let's blame them as well while we're at it.

I wish Target (and other businesses in their position) had the stones to just say they are closing their businesses because of net losses from THEFT. No mention of any one group, race, or demographic. Call a spade a spade and wait for the media to inevitably blast them for being racist.

Then scald them by saying “where did we once mention race?”. Accuse the media of racism for assuming the closure had anything to do with it. Put up a ledger showing the loss from inventory stolen.

Give the community a month to loot like crazy? FUCK THAT. Shut the doors yesterday. Let the employees come in for that last 30 days (they’d actually save the money they didn’t lose from theft) pack up, and move the inventory across town to the store that isn’t filled with vermin.

When you have a rat problem, do you continue to feed the rats to appease them until you move out? No. You exclude the rats as best as possible while you pack up.

The stores that are going to close or move should do that before the socialists/crypto commies take over and make it illegal. On the plus side, when they do, losses at such stores will drop to zero because the shelves will be bare with nothing to steal.

Or a Nike store. I'd bet money the Lebrons would be running themselves off the shelves faster than Nike could restock them.
