Learning things after retirement - sock height

konata88Learning things after retirement - sock height
It's taken 60+ years to finally figure out that I don't like socks that are between no-show and over the calf lengths. Don't really like crew or mid-calf socks.
I guess I've become more sensitive in retirement. I'll wear no-show in the summer and over the calf in the winter. I'm getting too old to keep reaching down and pulling up my socks.

mrvmaxMy Darn Tough over the calf stay up all day, I wear them to work with work boots. I have found no better work socks in my 56 years of living and I do not plan on buying anything else but Darn Tough. I had one pair I tried to wear out to get replaced under their warranty but they just got thinner and thinner but never got holes or tore. So I bought 4 new pair and threw that one pair away.
I do like Balega for no show socks with my running shoes. They have proven to be durable.

sourdough44Yeah, Wimmins are usually more in tune with fashion. With long pants, no worries, covered up.
In some ways, nothing wrong with acting part of your age.

Yup, I only have DT or Point 6 socks. But while I have socks of various heights, now I only like DT no-show or over the calf. It's all I'll buy moving forward. Assuming I have to buy socks someday - these things don't wear out. After 10+ years, still have yet to use the warranty.
Are Balega more durable than DT? My wife wears through socks for some reason.... Looking for something durable for her.

I’ve never worn DT but I’m a big fan of Balega socks.

The Balega have held up well for my wife and I. They don’t not get the abuse the DT do and I do not think they will outlast DT but they have done pretty well.

BGULLBeen down that road several years before retiring. My daily socks are typically compression, knee high socks/stockings. In retirement I’m wearing shorts daily as much of the year as I can. So I may be committing some sort of fashion faux pas or reinforcing some old guy stereotype. My aggravation is that the socks don’t always stay up, especially depending on my activity. My solution is to use a roll on adhesive by one of the sock manufacturers.
My wife’s main concern is that the brand I prefer, Jobst, don’t appear to have a wide color selection………

Nickelsig229I bought some wool knee high (just below the knee) midweight socks for a late fall camping trip in Connecticut (can reach freezing at night) when I was in my late 20's.
I have been wearing knee high socks for almost 25 years since then. I dont care if its cool to have No Show socks, it's meaningless to me. The comfort of knee high, and even compression, is just so much better.
ETA: I never wear shorts

GustoferI've been wearing various brands of crew height merino socks for going on 20 years now. I've never had a problem with them sliding down. It's the only way to go IMO.

P250UA5Over the calf boot socks [Wrangler] with boots, just over the ankle with shorts/tennis shoes. Used to wear no-show, but then my shoes started irritating my heels.

ZecpullI've been getting all the ads for the Alpaca socks.. I caved and bought some Hollow alpaca hunting socks. They are very good. I then got a better deal From Suri and I actually liked them better..both claim warmer than wool and I agree. They also don't make my feet sweat.
