I just tried to center the black mass. Thank goodness I was only 3 or 4 yards away. I’m sure some day I’ll give in to red dots. I’m really concerned about comfort level with an optic. Carrying is uncomfortable enough. I switched from kydex to leather for appendix carry and that made a world of difference.

Change in prescription?

Now, that "I'm getting older" (it takes me a while to admit that), and my eyes are getting older as well, that front sight is just a black blur.
The cheaters help, but I need to look over the cheaters to see the target clearly.
The optic helps! A lot! I can see the dot clearly without cheaters.

I wouldn't disregard using them. There's some with a smaller footprint that are made for concealed carry. I'm suing a Holosun EPS carry on a G-43X for concealed carry and it's working great so far!

I have the same issue, front sights on handguns are blurry, I use 2.0 cheaters, up from 1.50 as of last year. My distance sight is fine, maybe a hair less than perfect. Fortunately, I introduced and trained on optics a couple of years ago with a Holosun 507c which still resides on my G19 and works and carries fine (I will soon replace with an EPS, about the same size, to have an enclosed optic). As of now I have 4 other pistols equipped with dots and none present any issue or discomfort carrying AIWB or OWB including the tallest/larger 507c. Of course, others or your experience may be different.

Above all, accuracy at various distances has been just as good if not better than irons. I much prefer the MRS dots (dot in circle) in green.

I do use the cheaters with my 1911s and HKs (non milled for optics) for the range and don’t want to use dovetail mounting plates. However, it may come to that since milling is too pricey.

I have aging eyes and the sights are no longer clear for 3 item focusing. I switched to an RDS (G19 with Holosun SCS MOS) and it made a lot of difference. However...

It's not a perfect solution for because in my last eye exam from a couple of months ago, I have a mild cataract in the L eye and mild to moderate in the R. The dot is starry.

Blurry is different than starry. I can see the target just fine but the RDS isn't perfectly seen.

Was the RDS better than irons for me? Absolutely. Did it "fix" my vision problems? No.

It's still a plus and I'd suggest an RDS, along with bright sights as the backup.
