pbslinger"Mud rain" falls in Kansas City area
Apparently the rain storm picked up a bunch of dust from a dust storm in Arizona and New Mexico, and maybe part of Texas, and when it rained in Kansas City area, it left dirt deposits on everything Monday morning. My car was so dirty I drove to the car wash without running the wipers/washers, didn't want to scratch the windshield.
Even though this happens every now and then, first time I've ever seen or noticed it.

tatortoddI lived in West Texas for 1.5 years. It didn’t rain often but when it did the first few minutes washed the dirt/dust out of the air. Raining mud was a weird phenomenon.
When I lived in SoCal, I had a 25 mile view from my balcony in the winter. As drought set in every year my view slowly got shorter and shorter due to smog. It’d get down to 5 or 6 miles and eventually we’d get a rain which would wash away the smog. Instantaneous return of 25 mile view. I don’t miss breathing that air in the least bit.

JYumaI live about an hour north of KC and noticed the same thing Monday after the storms Sunday night. Never thought much about it though because I live on a gravel road and am used to seeing dust on my vehicles. But now that I read this it was unusual to have a dirty windshield after a storm because it usually cleans off and keeps the dust down for a few days.

Calif PhilSame here, noticed my car was fairly dirty after the rain. We need the moisture, so won't complain much.

Hamden106Go clean your solar panels.

BTW I know from experience with a commercial building with solar that simple day to day dirt will cut your solar output.
Then there is other dirt like tree pollen, forest fire ash, water spots from poor cleaning methods.
Even in best conditions, cleaning monthly is minimum.
One more thing is OSHA requirements if the panels are on the roof. Near the edge....
