Gov Abbot Takes A Stand Against ‘Defund The Police’ Peeps In TX Cities Written by Wes Walker on December 23, 2020 Hey Austin — if you fail to protect the safety of your own citizens, you will be relieved of the authority to make those decisions. ‘Progressive’ priorities at any level of government habitually focus on their latest spending initiatives, and not so much on delivering core responsibilities. It’s a habit they just can’t shake. Whether it’s ‘sequestration’ to bloat domestic spending and limit the needs for updating and maintaining the military, all the way down to decisions at the local school board, the pet projects tend to win out over the key deliverables. At the city level, one of those key deliverables just happens to be the policing to protect the persons and property within their oversight. The ‘defund the police’ movement has been just one part of the left’s overall campaign against the justice system in general. The more extreme versions want to abolish, not diminish the police force, the prison system, and any form of national border enforcement. Soros-backed AGs and Judges across the country haven’t been helping the situation any. Austin’s city council voted unanimously to slash police funding, which has resulted in a predictable spike in crime. According to the draft obtained by KXAN-TV, the takeover would only apply to municipalities with populations of 950,000 or more and a ratio of fewer than two police officers per 1,000 residents, for which the governor needs to issue a written document declaring a public safety threat due to insufficient funding for police. Under the bill, municipalities that are taken over to DPS would have to pay for the law enforcement services. They would also not be allowed to perform their own law enforcement after the takeover. Earlier this month, Abott told his supporters during a tele-town hall that he was considering a state takeover of the policing responsibilities of a large portion of Austin that covers downtown, the state capitol, and the University of Texas at Austin. He said the city’s effort to defund its police force has led to a rise in violent crime. – EpochTimes We’ve called Abbot out on a number of occasions, especially during the COVID shutdowns. But on this, he’s spot on. If they are putting petty politics ahead of public safety, the Governor can and should reign in their stupidity. You don’t have many services that are any more ‘core’ than police protection. Q

I actually don’t like this. Yes, the Austin city council is nuts, but the state setting a standard where the governor and the legislature remove local services from local control when they don’t like the decisions made at the local level is a seriously dangerous policy whenever “your guy” isn’t in charge. The people in Austin elected these nuts, they should deal with the consequences. There is also a question of whether the state will fund it from the general fund, or levy special taxes against Austin to pay for the APD/DPS hybrid that will remain (capitol area policing is already DPS). This also skips the next level of government (Travis County) completely in trying to get control of this. The legislature could also have just revoked Austin’s charter as a city and made it an unincorporated area subject to TCSO’s policing. ***************************** "I don't own the night, I only operate a small franchise" - Author unknown

As a Texan I resent my tax dollars being used to provide protection to The People’s Republic of Austin. They chose to defund the police, let them live with the consequences. Charging Austin for the service softens the outrage somewhat, but the citizens wouldn’t experience the consequences of their voting preferences.

As soon as one of those idiot council members gets mugged, car jacked, or their home burglarized they will change their minds. When it does happen watch them crying about where the police were when it happened. "Even if the world were perfect it wouldn't be." ... Yogi Berra

The fool city council members/antifa/blm were anticipating no law enforcement. Surprise! It is odd that the state bypassed the county. Is Travis County capable?

You have to love the idiots in Portland. they were the first to demand defunding...and the first to whine about the slow response. Oregon governor steps up police response as Portland rioters tear through downtown https://www.msn.com/en-us/news...downtown/ar-BB1aJuYm

Maybe they are dealing with the rioters while having a significantly smaller department.

I'm all for defunding the police if that means every law abiding citizen gets a Glock 19 and an AR-15 so they can carry out their own justice. Give that a few weeks and the criminals will be begging for the police to come back. You can't even make this shit up, it's so dumb. How about if you want to defund the police all your social welfare programs are defunded too? _____________

Vigilantism in the "Old West" was fairly rare... EXCEPT in places where there was a vacuum of effective local, territorial, or Federal governance. And, if you believe the prevailing research, vigilantes (vice lynch mobs, an entirely different creature) were by and large not hotheads or thugs. They were regular folks who simply were tired of government "calling in sick" to the detriment of property rights and individual security. If the SJWs bothered to read, or bothered to talk to people outside their bubble, they'd learn that they really, REALLY don't want a vacuum of government-provided law and order. It doesn't ever work the way they think it will.

The problem with that is Brown refused any help from Trump on the situation and the day that it became apparent that Biden won the election, she called in the Oregon National Guard. Political bull shit. She wants to turn Oregon into Kalifornia. She needs to be removed from office. I’m sick of her BS. --------------- Gary Will Fly for Food... and more Ammo Mosquito Lubrication Video If Guns Cause Crime, Mine Are Defective.... Ted Nugent
