Looking for some advice my less than one year old marathon CSAR automatic watch went from + 4-5 SPD to +45-60 SPD. I left it at a local jewelry store for them to polish the case, which they stated they could not. I was in there position around 2 months. Advice i’m thinking magnetic issue drop ❓
Thanks all who read and respond to my post.

First thing I would think,it might have some how become magnetized. Do you have a compass to check it with?

I’ve had a watch that did the same as yours…. Kept good time then started running ridiculously fast. The balance wheel had broken. Since it was replaced the watch is +2-3 seconds a day.

May not be your issue, but that’s what happened to mine.

Dropping it can dislodge the regulator off the hairspring and cause it to short stroke.

A magnetized hairspring will also cause short stroking and running extremely fast.

I bet Marathon will cover it under warranty.

^^^ What Marz said!
Marathon stands behind their product. Give them a call, they are always willing to help.
Ship it off, they will polish it as well.

Agree - call Marathon.

As to the polishing: think twice. Polishing it on a buffer will tend to round over sharp lines, etc. Even careful polishing can make your watch look ever so slightly melted. (And a bad polishing job will be terrible.) It will also alter the textures or brushed finish that it came with. To my eyes, unless the scratches are terrible, a polished watch looks worse than one with genuine use on it. You put the scratches on it, wear them with pride.

If you have an smart phone, get an app called Lepsi. Lepsi uses the sensors on your phone to check for magnetism. If it is magnetized, get a cheap demagnitzer from Amazon.
Also, take it to a watchmaker and have them put it on a timegrapher.

So, a good result!

It’s been said many times before, but this forum is a font of useful knowledge. (… and I was completely wrong!)
