On the ‘Click and Clack radio show they used to describe the Miata as the modern incarnation of the MG without the maintenance issues.

I owned a 1999 Base and then moved to a 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata. It was pretty quick with the factory turbo. I then bought a 2006 Honda S2000 which I still dearly love. If my 'S' were to disappear, I'd buy another Miata. Great little car.

If only they made them in XL. At 6'3", they just don't work. I can barely even get in one.

.... or 3 as well, which is what I tell anyone who asks me about going from a motorcycle to a trike.

I bought a new Miata in 1999 and really enjoyed driving it. There were two things that I didn't care for and those were the low seating position which made ingress and egress a bit of a chore, and ride quality on bad roads (of which unfortunately there are a lot around here, I even live on a dirt road). If the roads around here were as nice as they are just across the line in Maryland I'd likely have a Miata as a second car. Instead I picked up a 2019 Corolla Hatchback 6-speed, while it is no Miata or Boxster it does have a bit of that sports car feel only with higher seats, a better ride, and a bit more versatility. Congratulations on your new car!

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Also, not sure what shape the tires are, but if you can, treat yourself and your Miata to a fresh set of Toyo T1R sneakers (or whatever the preferred high-performance summer tire is these days).

Old OEM rubber is a disservice to the performance the Miata is capable of.

Yep. The Miata has been described as the best British sports car that the Japanese have ever made.

Tires were brand new as were the brakes when I bought it. Less then a week old so I have time them before needing replacements.

A friend of mine has a nice red Miata...with a 302 V8 and some front suspension mods. When he gets back in town I'll see if he'll agree to a photo op.

The old "R" series with the Brazilian engine was bit unreliable. I have a 2016 JCW with Dinan Chipset, Neuspeed 17 rims (over unsprung weight), NM lowering Springs, and heavy rear sway bar. Will be replacing sport shocks with Koni Yellow adjustable here in a bit.

The 2015 and up Hardtop manuals are a hoot to drive with mine pushing 265 HP (claimed). My first front drive but a hoot- and has the great BMW B48 4 cylinder turbo engine. Car will get a mechanical diff and new clutch her in in the next few 1000 miles. Honestly - a true 4 wheel go kart. My S2000 is just brutal and twitchy but oh so fun when you get it right.

A miata is a fun "stock" mix of getting a rear drive roadster with predictable and fun handling. Awesome car.

Welcome to the club!
We bought our first one, a ten year old 2000, off a re-po lot for $4500 and put ~100k miles on it including a 16 day road trip out west… 6k miles and 12 states. Only had to sleep in it one night, in a Walmart parking lot, because, no hotel vacancies. When we went on road trips or vacations in any other car we have ever owned we would fight over who HAD to drive. In the Miata we fight over who GETS to drive. That pretty much sums it up. My wife is a farmers daughter so a manual trans was not an issue. It’s pretty easy to get in and out of… if the top in down!

We joined and did a few drives with the Nashville Miata club, pretty cool to buzz around the country side with a couple dozen other Miatas and usually find an out of the way place to eat. But their driving gets a little ...extreme... at times and my wife couldn’t take that, and life and work kind of got in the way so we no longer belong to the club but you might have a look for one local to you.

So when I first got my little red convertible I waited for a nice day, grabbed the first bikini model I could find and headed out for some twisty backroads… planning on a nice ride and perhaps a photo shoot. Well… it rained. We got lost, almost ran out of gas and my bikini model didn't bring a bikini and turned out to be a Great Grandmother (My Wife Big Grin ) But it was still a great day!

Miata.net is the place to go for help or advice.

One piece of advice…. Don’t ride down the Interstate, top down, with a pink colored polo shirt on. Unless you WANT truckers honking at you. LOL! True story... but hey… it wasn’t pink, it was “salmon”.

The first is my wife driving the Tail of the Dragon. She actually surprised me how well she did with a little coaching. And yes she needs a cushion to sit on!

Awesome pics! Unfortunately it was raining on my ride back from TN but I did take to some local twistys here and it handled great.

Nice! I've casually had my eye out for a Miata for awhile. Want red, MT low mileage in the price range you paid. I guess I need to get more serious about finding one, as I'm not to sure I'll have the opportunity in my next life, and WTF is retirement for except to have some fun you couldn't when raising a family. Money, cars and what-not, the heirs can figure it out when I'm in the ground.

Short persons car. At 6’3 I can’t fit without the top down. Same goes for a friends Z4 also. Front windshield top bar is always in direct line of sight

That said... they definitely are a lot of fun to drive. Couple friends have had them over the years

Had a '97 on 3 year lease as ex-wife's daily driver. Then bought a 2000 SE 6-Speed which she drove until having our son in 2003.

Kept the SE, and moved her into a Forrester XT 2.5 Turbo Gen 1 as daily driver. The early XT's had the same gearing and final drive as the NA engines and was way faster than any grocery getter has a right to be. They had a change the gearing to make it slower than the WRX...

Divorced a few years ago, she kept her Miata, I kept my Guitars and Guns. She still has it, and my son has been eyeing it to drive since he was able to walk...
