I never thought I would say this but man I love my Miata. I’ve been a Roadster guy for a while and have had multiple BMW Z4’s, a Honda S2000, Older Porsche Boxster and man this thing is way more fun. It’s nowhere near as fast but it just drives so well. I drove to Tennessee last week to pick this 2012 up. It belonged to an older guy. It only has 26k miles and I got it for under $10k out the door. It’s the base model which I’m fine with I just wish it had the 6 speed manual instead of the 5. I already installed a new Sony head unit with Carplay. It will be a good compliment to my new Jeep.

Imagine that little beastie with 248 ponies and 236 ft. lbs. of torque…

I’ve always liked the Miata. One of my fathers coworkers put a Mustang 5.0 engine in his Miata. That thing was wild.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of scooping up a 1st or 2nd gen Miata or a SP1 S2000 for a while now. The Miata would be the smart way to go and least expensive route but I love that high revving S2000.

I wanted one so bad in 1990 and would have bought one but my knees were jammed under the steering wheel. I'm 6'2", have they given the driver any more room in the newer ones?

I doubt I'd fit in a Miata....

The NC Miata (2006-2015) has the most interior room which is why I chose this generation. I’m 6ft and fit perfectly fine. The NA/NB and ND are all a bit smaller.

I had a 2001 LS that I drove the snot out of for ~60K miles before I sold it due to a change in life’s priorities.

Yes, a lot of fun to drive (and auto-x)!!

Miata owner’s know that. . .

“It is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.”

You can drive it like you stole it and not get into too much trouble.

Because it so well balanced in weight, hp, neutral handling, hp to weight ratio, etc., that any significant changes to its ‘balance’ defeats the designed purpose of the Miata (IMHO of course).

Sure, folks squeeze in a larger engine or boost the engine to provide gobs of extra hp and torque, but there goes your ability to mash the gas pedal thru a corner while revving up to red-line. To each their own as it goes.

Nice color btw. Mine was Midnight Blue Mica.

Enjoy!

I have an S2000 with Supercharger and track suspension. In a year or two will pick up a used Miata and leave it stock as a toy. They are a lot of fun and chase one around the track driven by an experienced driver - will show you how fast these slow cars really are Smile

Sounds as though you’re having a ball with that Miata – congrats!

As for me… i test-drove a Miata many years ago. Its seat was so low that I felt like I was a little kid sitting in an old cast iron bath tub – I like to sit higher for better view. And I’m a six-footer.

Very nice Dusty78. I would love a Miata but I think I would need a crane to get out of one. Smile

We can relate. We owned a 2008 NC with the PRHT for 10 years and put 140K miles on it with only routine maintenance. Drove it on road trips all over the USA (mostly with the top down). For inexpensive and reliable fun, one can scarcely do better.

We trudge on.

I took one for a test drive back in the early 1990s, It didn't fit and was underpowered. I bought a Corvette instead. I am on my third Corvette now.

Long time sportscar lover having started with a '58 TR3A (121.5 CI bored out to 150 and SU carns swapped for Webers) back in the late '60s. Had a '97 Miata which was a lot of fun. Currently have a '03 S2000 AP1 which I bought new.

No question that the Miata is the most forgiving two seater you can own. Handling makes the meager powerplant seem bigger. If you can fit in a sportscar they are well worth checking out.

Dusty78, nice score and hope you enjoy the heck out of it! Smile Big Grin

6'1" 225 - not sure I would fit. Drove a buddy's convertible GT Mustang recently and it was super tight for me.

I've tried. I don't. Ifor the driver's side window is down, I'm okay. If not, I need to stow my left arm in what little trunk there is.

Miata Is Always The Answer

One day. Came really close to picking up an ND Club, but we ended up needing a truck.

Loved the ND, but would be plenty happy with a clean late NB.
