Has anyone experienced the color (I presume dye) leaching out of a high quality leather gun belt? I'm getting some staining on my pants around the waistband, and also on my leather lounge chair!

I don't get it sweaty or wet, and it's only a few years old, with moderate use.

I contacted the manufacturer, and they recommended that I buy this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d...mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 to try to seal it in. Any one used this stuff, or had something like this happen? I've never heard of it before.

Yes. I've used it on many leather projects.

You can also buy it at a Tandy Leather store if one is near you.

Without naming the manufacturer at this point, I and many others on this forum would beg to differ. Well, I suppose if my belt was defective, it's not high-quality, but the maker is very well regarded.

I was wondering if it's possibly a bad batch of sealant or dye on my belt, or possibly the leather they used on mine was somehow contaminated prior to treatment/manufacture, and couldn't hold the dye well. If that's the case, I'd expect a repeat of what's happened so far.

Oh, I guess both my Kramer and Mich Rosen are junk? OK, I got it.

Both bled dye when I first got they especially if I sweated. Clear paste wax helped.

I used Resolene when I dyed a brown holster black. It turned out perfect but if I remember correctly, it took a lot of care to make sure the Resolene laid down smoothly.

Man, I have worn many, many belts over my lifetime and I have never had one of them bleed through. They should have replaced that belt immediately rather than just telling you how to try and fix it.

Happened to me with a medium priced gun belt that I use heavily for IDPA competitions.

You didn't mention the type of fabric it is bleeding into so I don't know if my experience is relevant.
I have several Beltman belts but one brown that I wear almost all the time. It's with blue jeans and it's never shown any noticeable signs of color transfer. Much of the year I'm in warm to hot ambient conditions so it gets a fair amount of perspiration with no ill effects.
If I'm wearing light color khakis it's usually a more formal setting, meaning air conditioning so that could change things somewhat.
Mine gets treated with Obenauf's leather preservative about twice a year and even that doesn't seem to cause any issues.

Unacceptable, especially in brands you pay a premium for.

I have to agree with this statement. I have a Galco gunbelt that was purchased in 2008 and has been worn daily and NEVER EVER had a problem with any bleeding. In addition while I thought it was rather pricey in 2008 I now know that it's the best bargain in belts I have ever had in my life.

Have had half dozen gun belts, different makers and no bleed.
