What about trying some of those wool dryer balls that are supposed to soften clothes without using chemicals?

I have considered this as well. I'll try a shoe first and progress from there depending on my results.

Different FR materials will feel different, Nomex versus PBI and others. The TOPPS brand I am wearing are nice and soft.
