I read an article about the death of the woman mauled by the two pit bulls: 14 complaints by neighbors about the dogs being repeatedly at large. One neighbor bitten already. I hope the woman does at least 15 years in prison. The Sheriff of that county was pissed, when she was arrested “at the beach,” where she went after the woman’s death.

I don't understand why anyone would keep pit bulls.

It ain’t the dog, it’s the owner.
A good friend of mine had Tyson- American Pit Bull. Ghetto rescue- he found the dog on the night of one of Tysons fights.

Tyson looked like he was on steroids, and looked about as mean as Mike Tyson as well.

The nicest dog you’d ever meet!
Just one big chunk-o-meat that wanted to hang out in your lap, be petted and played with.

A friend of mine owned 2 Pits. He had them in a truck cap while we were attending an event. When someone walked by with a leashed dog, both of them jumped through the windows of the truck cap, destroying the windows. Fortunately, the other dog owner saw what was about to occur and got to safety before an attack.
My friend told me repeatedly how "nice" his dogs were! Confused

This has been repeated countless times by people who own the dogs or know dogs that are owned by others, and I have no reason to believe they’re not right. I have been present during dog attacks of me or others, and not one involved a pit bull. That’s not to say that different dogs don’t have different temperament characteristics, but ultimately it’s the owners who have responsibility for their actions. And, BTW, I have never owned any dogs myself, but that doesn’t make me any less confident of my opinions based on years of observations.

And when they aren’t, people get brutalized or killed. They are the euphemistic “ ghetto rats” of the canine world.

Used to have a customer who had one of those kill his dog while he was walking it. Neighbors let it run loose and had been reported numerous times. At the time he did not carry but he does now. I’d hate to have that happen with no way to stop it.

A very common refrain. Typically heard after yet another pit bull mauling.

It's the breed and the owner. Most pit bulls don't attack people, but the wrong kind of owner lets their base instincts flourish, and then we have stuff like this tragic story.

I think that the owners want to put on a tough facade. A neighbor had two big dogs. The dogs looked like pits, or rotts, or a mix. I put on the CHL when doing work on the front yard.

I believe they keep Pitbulls because they are afraid of life.

I too once felt this way. I was a solid German Shepherd lover. Then, my ex demanded we keep a pit bull puppy her niece gave her, over my objection. It turned out to be the best dog I ever had. Since that one, I've had several that were adopted from rescues and Humane Society, most who had been abused. Each has had an amazing personality, with love, loyalty and sense of humor. Pit bulls are the only breed I will have for the rest of my life.

Irresponsible owners who let their dogs continue to roam free and build on their prey drive deserve to be punished.

I just wanted to say that my friends across the street from me had a pit bull that was the sweetest dog ever. Watching her crunch up ice cubes and golf balls I would not want to have her mad at me but that never happened. I watched little kids crawl all over and even poke her in the eye and she just took it. So pit bulls, just like people can be good or bad.

I prefer German Shepherds ( have one now, lost one last month) and doodle type dogs but my daughter has 2 pitbulls. One is a little aloof but not a mean bone in his body. The other we call the potato. Just a big bed bug. All he wants to do is cuddle.
