Good Idea indeed! We did this before, also drive out to Death Valley, must see once in my opinion.

Pinball museum, south end of the strip at the old "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign location. An off-the-beaten-path place you can see (and play) pinball machines dating back decades.

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

Couple fun places not too far off main strip:
A gun guy or girl should stop at Wild West guns
And also the big bass pro attached to the silver ton casino

If you are into cars, the Shelby museum just past south end of strip

On my last visit to Las Vegas I booked a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon. It was fun. I've also done a tour of Hoover Dam--the tour I took included dinner on a side-wheeler on Lake Mead and a visit to a chocolatier. (My mom loved it!)

There are some free stuff to be entertained by also.

1) You can drive out to Red Rock Canyon. The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area [RRCNCA] is located just a few miles west of Las Vegas and encompasses 195,819 acres within the Mojave Desert. Red Rock Canyon is an area of worldwide geologic interest and beauty. The 13 mile Scenic Drive through Red Rock Canyon allows visitors to explore the highs and lows of the canyon from their vehicle or bicycle, with many scenic stops and and trailheads along the way. Entrance fees support visitor facilities and upkeep for this world-renowned scenic drive.

2) At night, you can go in front of the Bellagio and enjoy the Fountain Show. The Fountains of Bellagio is a daily experience in Las Vegas, every 30 minutes, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday through Friday and every 15 minutes from 7:00 PM to midnight. On weekends and holidays, the fountains display their magic every 30 minutes from noon to 7:00 PM and every 15 minutes from 7:00 PM to midnight.

3) You can go inside Caesars Palace and in the floor above the casino, the statues in different spots come alive regularly for a show. On that same floor are many high end shops if you like to look at baubles. My favorite was the Montblanc store where they had super high end fountain pens.

4) Inside the Venetia, you can ride a gondola through a rendition of Venice except the waters doesn't smell.

5) I know you said you're not there for shooting but they have a couple of places advertising where you can shoot a fully automatic weapon.

6) If you're going to gamble, set a limit. I think casinos still give you some discounts as visitors to get you in like free chips or two for one bets.

We learned that if there's a group of people milling around someplace to wait awhile because those people are waiting for a mini-show to happen. But as in any big seedy city, just be aware of your surroundings.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Yep, I’d second the pinball museum. That’s a lot of fun!

The Neon Graveyard is a neat excursion. Do it at night. You’ll need to book tickets in advance. https://www.neonmuseum.org/ We walked up to Fremont Street after that. It’s a few blocks of not so glamorous Las Vegas. We survived.

Fremont Street at night is a lot of fun. Live music (Alter Ego: a tribute band). Ya gotta go over and search out the Vegas Vickie sign and then have a cocktail at Barry’s.

There are lots of places to eat around Las Vegas area (away from, but not too far from the strip). Lot of restaurants on Spring Mountain Rd (West of Las Vegas Blvd), mostly Korean, Japanese, Seafood, etc. (Korea Town and China Town). If you are into steak, go to Flamingo Blvd (East of Las Vegas Blvd). I recommend Fogo de Chao (Brazilian Steakhouse).

Take your wife to Bellagio Hotel to see the fountain show (outside) and Christmas themed garden display inside (made of fresh plants and flowers). There is also a ROLEX store inside Big Grin for you to check out.

You can stop by some gunstores just to check out, not necesarrily to shoot. Discount Firearms (you can rent and shoot full auto. Nice selection of firearms) is on South Highland Drive (few blocks from the mall on the strip), American Shooters (on Arville St, near Spring Mountain restaurants) and Battlefield Vegas (you can shoot full auto, they will pick you up from your hotel using Humvee) is at South Sammy Davis Jr. Drive.

You may want to walk at night on Fremont Street. Just a warning. Lots of freaks at night. Just ignore them.

Las Vegas Metro cops dont play around with them. If someone gives you trouble, just call the LVMPD.

Eat dinner at the Battista's Hole in the wall Italian restaurant.

Jean George is not very good stay away from that one.

Eiffel Tower viewing deck is pretty cool.

Pink Jeep Tours to Hover Dam is good to go.

Michael Jackson and Penn and Teller shows are great. I didn't like KA it seemed to drag on.
