Heavyweight wool socks?

birddog1Heavyweight wool socks?
I’m looking to get a few pair of wool socks for cold weather deer hunting. Prefer higher wool content around 80%. I was looking at darn tough hunter extra cushion but I can’t find them anywhere. So what keeps your feet warm?

FN in MTSee good HD wool socks here in MT at every Ranch/Farm store, backpacker/ski shop, REI, etc.
Also look at Duluth Trading Post.

reflex/deflex 64I'm a fan of REI pretty good economic value. Heavy weight hikers if you boots are big enough. Medium is what I wear as work socks. They have a discount if you buy a few at a time.

GustoferI've worn Wigwam Merino Comfort Hikers for years. Very happy with them and wear them winter and summer. With a good thinsulate boot or Sorel, my feet don't ever get cold.

FN in MTGustofer hit it on the head...Buy a pair of good pak boots. I have some Schnee's, built in MT. NEVER suffer from cold feet anymore. Socks are only part of the solution.
And BTW....REI has a sale starting Nov 10th.

akcopnfbksI use Wigwam Merino Comfort Hikers or Merino Comfort Sportsman socks, and they work great. When it gets really cold I have a few pairs of their Minus 40 socks that are also outstanding.

mlazarusI rotated between 5 pair of smart wool socks over the course of about 400 days in Afghanistan. Some of those days were mighty cold. My feet were never uncomfortable and the 5 pair of socks are still in great shape and used regularly.
Smart wool.

41I get the Dickies Wool Socks at WalMart:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dic...ocks-2-Pack/16827417While they are normally about $10 for two pair, at the end of the season, they are marked down at some stores to $3 for 2 pair. I have at least 30 pair or more.

Timing is everything.

msfzoeCheck keepshooting.com.
They sell milsurp apparel from many countries.
I am very satisfied with the German and Italian 100% wool socks.
Wam, wear like iron and unbelievably cheap.

BassamaticI am also always on the lookout for decent wool hunting socks. Most of the ones in my drawer came from our local farm and garden store, they do the job but I always think there is something better just around the corner.

newmexicanI really like the ones from KUIU, I have 4-5 pairs of them at this point. I also like the pairs I have from firstlite.

FusterncDarnTough wool socks
also,
“People Socks”wool socks are decent quality and a pack of them can be had for cheap on Amazon.
They are however NOT as durable as DarnTough. I usually get 7 months out of a pair before the heel or forefoot starts wearing thin.

birddog1Sounds like smartwool or darn tough get a lot of love. My wife said she’d go to an Amish feed store that is listed as a dealer for darn tough and see if they have them. Since my 15 year old is deer hunting with me this year it’s more important to keep him warm so I need to get a few pairs

I just purchased 2 pairs of the Darn Tough hunter extra cushion socks from Scheels Sporting goods. I’d link them for you but I’m on my phone. Google Scheels and you will find them. $30 a pair

SuppressedI have Smartwool, Darn Tough, and Duluth. More important is to have a good pair of pac boots that aren’t too tight fitting. My next pair of boots will be Hoffman boots which are made in the U.S.A..
