looks like crabgrass. 2-4-D also sold under various brand names should take care of it. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I've had the best success with pulling it manually. I haven't had much luck with sprays. It can be tough but trying to get the roots is key. Sometimes it is better to just dig out large patches and reseed with grass.

Conservative Behind Enemy Lines |
I purchased my house 15 years ago. First thing I did was install a sprinkler system and sod. Yard looked great for a couple of years. But after the third year, several other species of grass started appearing, and also weeds. Home depot guy recommended stuff, but to no avail. Then, the gophers started raising hell. So, I rototiller-ed it, put down a blanket of stainless steel chicken wire and re-sodded. Looked great for a couple of years. No gophers anymore, but eventually the yard was a cacophony of several types of grasses and several types of weeds. I called my lawn, "multi-herbal." So, this weekend, I had "Forever lawn" installed. W.O.W. They've come a long, long way with artificial turf. It looks like a finely crafted putting green. I'll never have to water it, never have to mow it, and there will never be any gophers. Plus, it's guaranteed for 20 years. The curb appeal is incredible. I'm really jacked. /[DRIFT] Of all the enemies the American citizen faces, the Democrat Party is the very worst.

I did try google, but there are many types of broad leaf grass and each with a different way to kill I think. AstroTurf, that's a fantastic idea. I bet it's costly though. -wolff "In the absence of light, darkness prevails." - Professor Bruttenholm

Unless there has been a breakthrough that I'm unaware of, there are no selective herbicides for graminoids. 2,4-D is a broadleaf herbicide _______________________________________________________ despite them

2,4-D won't touch crabgrass, or any grass. It can make the crabgrass chemicals more effective, but won't kill by itself. You probably want something with quinclorac it it, if you have a cool-season grass (fescue, bluegrass). I don't know what to use on Bermuda/st Agustine, etc Most crabgrass killers have some 2,4-D in them as well to kill broadleaf weeds and to make the solution not-colorless as they usually only have 1-3% of the chemical that kills the crabgrass. 2,4-D is brown & cheap....

That looks looks to be crab grass. I have been pulling all the sprouts manually as they appear over the last few days. It's bad, I see it when I close my eyes. I put my St Augustine down about 3 months ago. It looked great until I noticed odd patches of color developing. A little research pointed to crab grass.

Pre emergent herbicide. Preen is a good starting point. ----------The weather is here I wish you were beautiful----------

There is a special crabgrass killer recommend by Jack Eden. Well here it is Rockland : https://www.washingtonpost.com...m_term=.c148569e0e2d https://www.washingtonpost.com...m_term=.9f3db0c0eb9e He use to write articles in the Washington Post and I saved most of them and they are around here somewhere. He passed away some years ago but was well respected in his knowledge of gardening....2009 at age 79. Rest in peace sir, you are greatly missed. http://www.washingtonpost.com/...AR2009020403473.html http://voices.washingtonpost.c..._of_the_times_1.html 41

Pre emergent herbicide will definately get it out next year, but timing is everything. P.E.H. must be put out 3X, in the off season. In GA (Atlanta area) September, December, and again in March (1st or 2nd week of each of these months) works best. Your part of the country may be slightly earlier. To get all the weeds before they emerge, do not fail to do all three treatments.

At times in the old days, we would use a fork and remove it so as not to let it go to seed. Seeds can remain in the soil for 20 years or more. So it is a continuing process every year. Spray it with the crabgrass killer early before it goes to seed and it will turn yellow and die. 41

If you have a dog, don't go spraying it. I never had crab grass when I had my lawn treated, but my dog developed lymphoma and died. There's no definitive causation, but there are studies that suggest the link. I'd rather keep my dog and have crab grass than have a nicer lawn and no dog. This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. First In Last Out

I use this stuff, Ortho® Weed B Gon® Plus Crabgrass Control Concentrate2 , once the crabgrass shows up in the spring , again in the fall if needed. If crabgrass is in the neighborhood uncontrolled you will always have it. Ortho also makes the Weed Be Gon w/o the CG control. Make sure to use the one with it listed above. _____________________

I have bermuda in my yard, and crabgrass and some bahia.... My neighbor who has a landscaping business has access to some kinda chemical that gets rid of the crabgrass and bahia. I tried spraying it myself but he said I'd never get rid of it w/o also adding some pre emergent. So I paid him to do my yard two months ago... Whatever is in the concoction he sprayed, turns the grass brown...the bermuda makes a comeback and the pre emergent prevents the other stuff to grow back in the areas that are bare or dead... Try going to a local chemical place...not Lowes or Home Depot...here we have a place called Southern States they will guide you with the chemical you need. The crabgrass can be controlled...just get your wallet out. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. I had that same stuff slowly taking over my lawn last 1 1/2 years also. Very aggressive, conditions that kick a Kentucky Blue or Long Fescue lawns ass (Heat of summer, poor soil) seemed to make this stuff thrive. Spent hours every other week pulling that stuff by hand. Front yard got the generic Scott weed-n-feed. Back got organic fertilizer only (Didn't want to take a chance with the dog). Still could not get rid of it. Late last fall I nuked the yard with some commercial grade weed/Bermuda Grass killer bought on the line. Killed pretty much everything, but came back in spots mid summer with a vengeance. The jury is still out, no-one can confirm 100% if it's Crabgrass or Bermuda Grass. Whatever it is, its tough... So I threw in the towel and hired a service late July. "The Weed Man" Been about 2 months, looks much better, not seeing any new growth of this devils weed and with it cooling down new growth of the lawn is bouncing back. Their plan is $65/treatment I jumped in late in the year, but looks like 6 or 8 treatments a year total. FWIW, I seemed to spend at least half that per year on the Scotts stuff, and weed-be-gone.
