I kind of practice the “5:2” plan (Monday & Wednesday). “A new study has revealed that intermittent fasting may help you live longer and improve your overall health. While many fad diets, such as keto, have been proven unsustainable or even, in some cases, harmful, intermittent fasting has by and large held up to scientific testing. Intermittent fasting diets, fall generally into two categories: daily time-restricted feeding, which narrows eating times to 6-8 hours per day, and the so-called 5:2 intermittent fasting, in which people limit themselves to one moderate-sized meal two days each week…” https://mol.im/a/7829437 Serious about crackers

A coworker is doing intermittent fasting, keto and working out a ton. Every day he looks skinnier. He's doing the fasting where he only eats between 12pm and 8pm, I think I may try that. I've been just leaning towards keto lately and my carb intake has been under 50 grams a day without trying too hard.

His diet consists of black coffee, and sarcasm. |
Hey, I've been fasting all these years and didn't even know it.

Belaboring the obvious: Most of us enjoy "breakfast" every day. The word literally means "to break the fast." As a late-onset pre-diabetic, I find intermittent fasting a help in controlling blood sugar. My routine a couple of time a week is to not eat breakfast, or lunch, a couple of days a week, and then enjoy dinner. My fasting is usually 16-18 hours. Water, tea and even black coffee (which I avoid) can be drunk, to keep one hydrated, and feeling full. You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless. NRA Benefactor/Patriot Member

I've been doing the OMAD and it seems to work well for me. The extra time in not preparing or eating two meals is significant. First two weeks was the hardest...but I've lost 30lbs since Thanksgiving. I kinda KETO the one meal in that I limit carbs and eat slightly above a normal "dinner" amount...but the xtra is protein, veggies, and good fats. I also added a rower to my plan and row about 6-8k meters a day...so that is helping too, Im sure. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! "Intermittent Fasting" has been discussed a fair amount in this thread. I eat once a day. I don't consider that fasting. Certainly "limiting feeding to 6-8 hours a day" doesn't sound like fasting. Humans don't need 3 meals a day. People should "graze" if that works for them, frankly eating numerous small meals sounds like a PITA. I'm getting tired of people telling me eating one meal a day is unhealthy. The human race existed before refrigeration, supermarkets, and farming. As I said in another thread. We can survive for considerably longer than a day without food. Water? No, drink as much as you like. Why the rolleyes? You might want to check out the thread I linked if you aren't familiar with it. A diet is what you eat, and when you eat. As I described, I'm not a fan of the loose term "intermittent fasting," but if it is anything, in common parlance people call it a diet. What should a "diet" actually be? See my thread. I do 18-6. It is not hard, and I really believe in the benefits. Agree, you don’t need more than 1-2 meals a day. There are 3 kinds of people, those that understand numbers and those that don't.

I’m very well versed in intermittent and multi-day fasting (theory and practice.) A fast is to not eat for a period of time hence it cannot be a “diet.” After one’s fast, be it intermittent or multi-day, what you eat would be your diet. That could be vegan, paleo, keto, omnivorous, fruitarian... “People have to really suffer before they can risk doing what they love.” –Chuck Palahnuik Be harder to kill: https://preparefit.ck.page

For the average person, and really any basic discussion, intermittent fasting will get called a diet. I suggest letting it go. I work in a trade and my 6’3” frame needs more than 1-2 meals a day. I would be hungry most of the time. I think if someone has a desk job 3 would be overkill. Making a general statement about everyone on the planet only needing 1-2 meals a day is ludicrous. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

People need calories for their level of activity. Too many calories for your level of activity, means you put on fat. How they take them in, when, and how often is a much wider band than one might expect. Until recently I was working construction and eating one meal a day. What it is, and total calories matter a whole lot more than how many meals. Arc. ______________________________ "Like a bitter weed, I'm a bad seed"- Johnny Cash "I'm a loner, Dottie. Did you actually read my response? Again. Total calorie intake level and activity are the bottom lines. How many times you eat doesn't matter. I have been practicing intermittent fasting for over two years now. Works great for me and is easy to adhere to. I agree that it is not a diet but a lifestyle choice. Diet traditionally refers to what you eat. IF is not placing limits on the type of food you eat but what time you eat it. Now in addition to IF I have experimented with low carb, keto, paleo... Those are "diets". I am still figuring out what works for me but for me IF has done wonders for fat loss, quality of sleep and energy levels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Fasting is not something that I would do. Why would you? Regular fuel is a much better approach IMO. To me it is the sum total of calories that makes the difference along with the right mix of nutrients. I know some think this is great and is probably good for them, to each their own. But not for me.

Fasting is a good way to restrict calories, hence why it's a diet. For me, it's much easier to be in a calorie deficit of I eat between 1:30 and 8:30 than if I grazed throughout the day. It eliminates late night snacking and breakfast which are all excess calories when you get all your regular fuel during lunch and dinner.
