By weight, gasoline is 30 times more energy dense than our best lithium ion batteries. Simple arithmetic.

I can't imagine why anyone would run ANY company in that communist cesspool. It defies logic, IMO.

They'll probably have ICE motor inspections at the border, bring over an Ice engine, 30 days in the hole, bring over a 2-stroke, 30 days in the hole,...

I have an Ego 21 inch push mower. I get about an hour/ hour fifteen out of a battery. Weed eater gets 30 minutes. Both have been great.

I don’t have to mix gas, they don’t get hot to the touch and the noise isn’t as much as gas.

I also have a 16 inch bar chain saw.

All have been great and I actually find them to be more hassle free than the gas ones I’ve owned in the past.

I’m pretty happy with my purchases.

I used a 21” EGO push mower for a small back yard, and trimming around trees and flower beds. It excels in these uses in my opinion, it’s lightweight, bags clippings and the gas/oil/filters/plugs are just not an issue.
I definitely think they have their place; I also used a Kubota zero turn for the large patches on two 3 acre lots. They both have their place.

I bought my last lawn mower in 1990 and it’s still running strong. Changed the oil last summer for the first time since 1994. Every year I keep hoping it will die on me so I can buy a new mower, but the dang thing just keeps on running. I don’t know if I have ver changed the spark plug, but I think I did once, and I have cleaned the air filter once years ago. Let me know if any of your battery powered mowers last that long. I’d have dumped that HD salesman in the nearest dumpster.

Came to say this.

Gun store clerk = Big box mower clerk. No professional qualifications required or needed. Entry level job.

I don't think Honda, Briggs, Kohler, etc are planning on shutting down entire factories because "electric." It's all part of the Green New deal - no petroleum powered products - which will force people to stay close to home and be tightly controlled. Misbehave and the power goes out. Already being done in other major countries.

Once they accomplish that then they can "weld the front door shut" and you are just more livestock to be managed. And we go right along with all the sales hype buying it up.

We can barely see any of our neighbors, we're so far apart, but I can sure hear them running their lawn tractors or weed eaters. Seems like every evening in the Summer somebody's doing something.Smile

If electric mowers are so great and the future, why isn't one of the best residential lawn mower makers in the world IMO (Honda) making any?

I think they have like one model and it's not available here in the US...

FWIW way back in 1982-1983 ish, I had an electric riding lawn more.

It was a Sears Craftsman and it looked just like the gas powered version.

It had 3 Golf Cart batteries under the hood, and IIRC it was basically the same system as the Golf Carts. Charger was built in, I just plugged it into the wall when done.

My yard was a decent sized front yard, for the day back then, a side yard, and a reasonably large sized back yard.

It cut just fine on one charge, no issues.

I liked it because it was quiet and there was no gas to buy, transport and store etc.

Ended up moving and left it there. Wish I still had it to this day.

3 Golf Cart batteries are about 90-100 bucks each now, I think. That's not cheap.

I don't know if there any of these left nowadays, but I'd love to see another one.

If true, not too relevant to the discussion at hand. If you have to recharge your lawn mower battery, so what if it takes 15 minutes. It’s not like you’re trying to drive cross country.

By the way, driving cross country is certainly doable in an EV, just not as flexible or convenient as filling up with gas- but a lot less expensive.

Anyone who thinks electric motors don’t have the power of gas has had his head buried in the sand for quite a while. All the torque all the time. The issues with trying to push EVs to market simply do not apply to a lawn mower for most people. What if we’re evacuating? What if the grid is down? Don’t cut your grass.

In addition to lawnmowers, weedwackers etc., I am seeing a lot of research on the liquid piston engine.

Neither is $5 a gallon gas, which you'll need in the mower, and use up in the car/truck to get the gas LOL.

Since if you don't like e-mowers probably don't have an EV car

My guess is that we'll have a Republican president next election and we'll still be able to buy gas lawn movers, tractors, weed eaters and drive gas pick up trucks. No need to 'hurry up' and buy..
