The man in charge of mowers at a Home Depot I was at said if I wanted a gas mower I better get one soon because within 2 more years they'll all be electric.
My hunch is maybe that's all HD will be carrying but I doubt this is the case everywhere. Still the changeover from gasoline to battery mowers may come about pretty soon.

SIGnifiedMaybe find a new retailer instead of Home Depot?

HRKOther than a large property with many acres to be mowed, electric works well. If and when I replace the JD 130 electric will be in consideration but prices will have to come down.
I could use a self propelled walk behind, my waistline would approve of such a move and at $700 each, not a bad choice.
Right now price for an E riding mower is high, EGO's ZTR will mow 2 or 4 acres on a single charge, but the Z6 52 inch cut is $7,000, the smaller 42 inch is $5,500. It has 6 batteries, at replacement cost of $249 each.
Link to Ego California has already decreed the end of gas lawn equipment sales, so it's coming to that state quickly.

SIGnifiedAll these electric mowers and their parts made in the USA?

The price isn't bad if it's built heavy duty but I just looked at the link, it claimed that Ego ZTR can mow "
up to 2 acres on a single charge" while showing it cutting what appeared to be 1/2" off 2" grass. I wonder how far it'll get mowing thick, 7" grass down to 4"?

I seriously doubt it.

powermadI tried the electric mower and weed eater.
Lasted 3 seasons and both are toast.
Bought gassers again this year.
My grass winds up getting tall and it's soggy ground.
It works the electric ones too hard, drains the 40 amp battery flat in no time and takes quite a while to recharge.

Bullshit
The guy is BSing you into buying something.
I looked long and hard at battery mowers two years ago and ultimately decided on a gas Honda because the battery models still don't have the power that a gas engine has for things like heavy mulching/bagging which I do a lot of: hickory nuts, tough waxy magnolia leaves etc.

Ego Outdoor Power Equipment is made by Chervon, a Chinese company with manufacturing plants in Nanjing, China, and Stuttgart, Germany. Their USP is making battery tools that are as powerful as gas ones. Many reviewers agree, giving their chainsaws 4.5 out of 5 star
LinkPASig, think you'd be surprised at the power of some of the newer electric lawn equipment has, they have Professional lines as well. Tech advances significantly every year.
Since California decreed the end of gas and oil based small engines and it's a large market, it won't be long until that spreads east, ending the gas based products, even Stihl has come out with an electric line of lawn tools.
Used my EGO chain saw for the first time a few weekends ago, once I got the chain adjustment down it worked very well, and zero issues with having to deal with hot restarts or mixing fuel.
Granted for my use it's for trimming up small branches etc since I'm not a lumberjack..

As powerful as gas for what...5...6 minutes?
And if you have a yard that takes a hour to mow?
I have a battery Kobalt leaf blower that is a beast, for about 8 minutes, then it's charge time.

I have their chainsaw 18 inch bar. It’s OK. Not the same as a gasser. It’s mostly plastic and shit breaks off of it. Seems to run better with the missing parts. Ymmv

He wasn't BSing me into buying anything, I was just there and happened to help him load a boxed mower on a customer's cart and while looking at their selection commented on how many battery mowers they had compared to gas ones. That's when he said "if you want a gas mower you better get one because after next year you won't be able to get one." As I said maybe he meant "at Home Depot's"?
And no, battery wouldn't work for my situation, but if I had a small yard say 3/4 acre or so I'd probably go that route.

I have a few Ego products including the 18" chainsaw ... so far working good for me.
Today I went to Costco for a two-pack of vegetable oil that I use in all my chainsaws for bar oil. The Ego, an old school McCulloch Eager Beaver and a Stihl MS361.
A pro cutter I know told me to use veg oil instead of dino since the veg oil is cheaper, works just as well and the wood you cut had no petrol oil on it for both the fireplace and bbq.

Why? It's not like the HD associate who made the seemingly rare choice to be located near customers actually sets Company policy, makes Corporate procurement decisions, or provides Corporate comments to proposed government regulation.

Eight square feet is 'up to' two acres.
If my grass was 2 1/2 inches high, I would consider it cut already.

old dinoJust now talking to my wife about an older Honda push mower we have that needs a new pull starter spring. Thought about giving it way but now think it might me worth fixing up and selling. Heck, I am retired now and always need a project or two.

BluecobraI bought a Ryobi RM480 48 volt electric riding mower in 2019. It was great for the end of 2019 and the 2020 season. I mow about an acre and I always had 60% or more battery left when I finished. Well 2021 was different, The first time I used it I made it halfway and the deck shut off. That is what it does when the batteries are low on charge, to give you enough juice to get back to the garage. I have tested the batteries and they all test as fine, hold a charge under load, etc. But I cannot get more than 35-45 minutes out of a charge, when I could get an one to two hours previously.
The worst thing is since it isn't gas I don't know how to work on it other than to test the batteries. I can get new batteries for $800. Not doing that. I will go back and buy a gas burner. The last one lasted me 15 years.

EGO can take their bullshit claims and shove them up their asses. My aunt bought one for her grandson to push mow with because it was lighter (easier to push).
Link to the POS Originally claimed 3 hour runtime. Ran for 10 minutes

There's no way ANY of the current battery operated offerings will out perform a regular ol' Honda. Will it get there? Maybe. One day, possibly. Not in our lifetime though and I'm only 41.
As to no ICE mowers? Dude was so full of shit I bet it was leaking out of his ears. Are they selling lots of them? You bet. (tons of houses on postage stamp lots) Will they be the only option available within some markets? Absolutely. Gonna replace ICE mowers totally? FUCK NO! When Honda or Scag make one, I might change my mind but until then, you're not gonna convince me that gas mowers are being phased out sooner rather than later.
